Grisman Releases Old & in the Way The Complete Boarding House Tapes

Forty years ago tonight Old & in the Way performed their first of two October 1973 performances at The Boarding House in San Francisco, CA. Today, in celebration of the anniversary, David Grisman has released high-definition recordings of the two shows as Old & In The Way – The Complete Boarding House Tapes via Acoustic Oasis.

Old & in the Way made a huge impact on the bluegrass world with a lineup that featured Grisman, Jerry Garcia on banjo, John Kahn on bass, guitarist Peter Rowan and fiddle virtuoso Vassar Clements. The Boarding House shows were recorded by none other than Owsley Stanley III, aka "Bear." All told there are 55 tracks in the set, 14 of which have never been issued before. "Although we didn’t realize what an impact this music would have at the time, we had a lot of fun playing the bluegrass music we loved and these tapes reveal that in a big way,” Grisman said in a press release announcing the set.
