The international-country outfit from Asheville, NC will release a free song one Tuesday a month starting on Tuesday, April 16. The download will be available at the band’s www.toubabkrewe.com.
The initial releases will be from a 2012 session at The Kennel Recording Studio in Brooklyn, NY engineered by Prince Polo. Following their two-night run at The Brooklyn Bowl last May, the Krewe recorded three songs over three days and nights at the Bushwick studio.
The band was joined by multi-instrumentalists Weedie Braimah (Kreative Pandemonium) and Sam Dickey (Benyoro), and on horns by Nadav Nirenberg – Trombone, Sousaphone (Ikebe Shakedown, Streetlight Manifesto), Morgan Price – Saxophone (FELA!, Duke Ellington Orchestra), Jason Colby – Trumpet (Ikebe Shakedown, Lee Fields).
Primarily performing and recording as a quintet since its inception, Toubab Krewe relished the opportunity to collaborate with the talented musicians listed above. The results from this ten-person collaboration is an eclectic trio of songs inspired by music from Cuba, West Virginia, and Mali. The band and it’s collaborators are thrilled to be sharing the music from this exciting session with its fans.
Download the first release April 16 at www.toubabkrewe.com.
