It is a rare occasion when you get members of The Funky Meters, The Wild Magnolias, George Porter's Runnin' Pardners, and Smylin' Myron on the same stage, yet John Gros has been quite successful at achieving this. About a year and a half ago, John Gros assembled this all-star quartet for weekly Monday night gigs at Old Point Bar in New Orleans. He never dreamt of Papa Grows Funk staying together and eventually touring, nonetheless selling gigs out in San Francisco and New York City over this past year.

The City of New York will get its second chance to see these all-star veterans on June 2, 2001 at Tribeca Blues. Not only will the crowd witness PGF lay down some serious swampy licks of funk, but delta blues guru John Mooney will share the bill with his solo act that is currently hitting festivals all over the United States. This has the foundation for an unforgettable night of music seeing that these two rarely share the stage in New Orleans, never mind in New York City.

Two shows, an 8PM and midnight, will be held on the evening of June 2, 2001. Tickets are available through For more information contact Tribeca Blues at 212-766-1070
