in a two day period!!! The Disco Biscuits are at the Fillmore
on Friday, The Old 97s are at a sold out Slim's show and at the
KFOG KaBOOM event on the San Francisco waterfront, and Tom Russell is at the Palms, Henfling's and Starry Plough...
Tuesday | May 8th
Project Object, the hottest Zappa-cover act around, will be at the Justice League with Bitches Brew opening. Zappa alums Ike Willis and Ray White will both be there. Wycliffe Gordon Quintet is at Yoshi's. Run DMC is at the Maritime. The fabulous Tea Leaf Green and the funky Tree o' Frogs will play Sweetwater. Govinda is at Fuel 44 (and later in the week at Justice League).
Wednesday | May 9th
Bitches Brew is at the Jupiter. Chick Corea New Trio starts up their sold out run at Yoshi's. Five Point Plan is at the Boom Boom Room. Freak Wagon will play the Voodoo Lounge. The Catalyst has a free show with Chupacabra (thanks Mountain Music!). Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire is at the Elbo Room with the wonderful Kelly Hogan and the Pine Valley Cosmonauts leading off.
Thursday | May 10th
Tea Leaf Green and Most Chill Slackmob are at the Last Day Saloon. Om Trio
will rip it up at Butterfly. Canned Heat plays the Boom Boom Room. B'nois King and The Smokin' Joe Kubek Band will be at Biscuits & Blues. The Salvation Air Force is at Bruno's. Tree o' Frogs will funk it up at Moe's Alley in Santa Cruz. Terence Blanchard is at Villa Montalvo's Carraige House Theater. Ten Ton Chicken will wow you with their signature jams and New Monsoon is ready to show you what they are all about at 19 Broadway in Fairfax.
Friday | May 11th
The Disco Biscuits play the last show of their current US tour at the
Fillmore. The Old 97s and the Honeydogs are at Slim's. Great American Music Hall has Vinyl and Hanuman. The Breakestra will play Justice League. Tony Furtado and his band are at the Elbo Room, also on Saturday. Alien Lovestock is at the Last Day Saloon. There is a 7 pm show at Starry Plough with Tom Russell & Andrew Hardin. Tom is touring on his great new CD Borderland. Red Meat
and others play after Russell at the Plough. Zigaboo Modeliste and the New Aahkesstra are at 19 Broadway in Fairfax, Zig is ready to bring his New Orleans funk to you, straight back from Jazz Fest, so funk it up and say "Yo" to Ziggy for me! Taos Hum is at Fourth Street Tavern. Smiley's in Bolinas has Tree o' Frogs. The Mermen are at Sweetwater. Up in Davis
Chemystry Set plays on the Walker Stage at 6 pm on the Davis campus for the
Whole Earth Festival. The Mother Hips are at the Mystic Theater in
Petaluma. Down in Santa Cruz the Catalyst has Something Else. Garaj Mahal will be at Palookaville. Liquid Foundation is at the Terrace in Soquel. Most Chill Slackmob is at Blakes (and G Street Pub in Davis on Saturday).
Saturday | May 12th
The Old 97s will join The Mother Hips and Blues Traveler at the KFOG KaBOOM! event. See kfog.com for information. Out on the bay Sunset Promotions will have Stolen Bibles with DJ Motion Potion on a Red & White Fleet boat - check SunsetPromotions.net for information. The Living Daylights will be at iMusicast in Oakland. Paul Pena and Stephen Kent are at Noe Valley Ministry. The White Stripes and others are at the Fillmore. Tree o' Frogs has had to cancel their show at the Old Western Saloon, but they'll still have entertainment there. Don't miss the stellar lineup of acts at Davis' Whole Earth Festival: Tea Leaf Green, Ten Ton Chicken, Living Daylights, Hanuman and much more. Of course you won't want to miss Garaj Mahal at the Last Day Saloon, but I've not found out how to be in two places at once so I won't make it this time around. Wig Salad plays at 12:30 pm at the Whole Earth Festival on the Davis campus. Charlie Musselwhite is at Sweetwater. The Toyes, of "Smoke Two Joints" fame will play Ashkenaz.
