I love Warren and the Mule but can do without the never ending left turn of NASCAR.

Amen. I live in Charlotte NC and I have to tell you, it's ridiculous. Nascar is huge here, and for those of us that are not from here it's impossible to avoid completely. Love that Mr. Haynes though. Nothing wrong with good southern music....but I wish they'd take their sports(? if it's a sport?) somewhere else....

P.S. Fantastic Allman Bros show here last weekend. Seen em' over 15 times here in town and never before seen greg stand up and play Sweet Melissa!!! Very cool...

to most people NASCAR probably is boring, but i don't really care. if you've never went and seen a race live, it's kinda like CD's and live concerts, you can't compare or even imagine what it's like to actually be there. in Atlanta you can get right up on the fence, the cars are literally a couple of feet away zooming by at 200mph +! i promise you it's a sport. try riding around in one of those heat boxes for 400 miles, banging with other cars at 170mph, the intensity is enough to drain you completly.

i say "boogity boogity boogity!" Warren!

I've never been. Its boring as hell to watch on TV, I think I've devoted about 12 minutes of my whole life to it. Its probably a pretty fun day out, though, I think you can haul your own beers in. If anything,it may give Warren some more exposure to people rockin' the mullet.

I love it! Business in the front, Ragin party in the back!

Calling a spade a spade, I don't care for Nascar, but i can recognize the value to attending live vs. seeing on TV....like everything else in life, worlds of difference.
Rock on Warren, talk about doing it all.

I have no problem with the sport of nascar. My gripe is with the moron rednecks who go to these events. Beligerently drunk, ignorant morons. People who revel in thier ignornace. People who draw status from thier ignorance. From my estimation and experience people go to nascar events to display thier ignorance. It is nothing more than a contest for who can act more ignorant. Good idea though Warren, its nice that there will be music made by a real musician on TV as opposed to the industry crap that is smeared all over everything that is corporate media...

delaney's comments are probably very similar to those "idiot redneck's" comments about people who go to "jam band" concerts and festies. you shouldn't stereotype, it's not very becoming.

All Loving Liberal White Guy

YEE HAW let me knock my wife across the trailer with a jab to the jaw and grab a cold can of Schafer, it's NASCAR TIME!!!

but seriously folks, watching racing live is cool. the sound alone is mind boggling when you hear those cars zoom by from what i've heard. wouldn't mind checking it out once.

As someone who has been on the "jam scene" for over 10 years and attends NASCAR events at least twice a year, I can tell you the two groups are very similiar. Both have their fans who are there for the actual event (whether it be a race or show/festival) and both have their fans that just show up to see how "wasted" they can get (without even realizing a race/show has taken place)...

Some NASCAR fans sport mullets and I've been to some festivals where the smell of dirty hippie dreads almosts suffocates me...mullet vs. dirty dreads...it's a toss up in my book...

NASCAR fans dawn themselves in their favorite driver's garb, usually brightly colored and obnoxious...how many tye-dye's or "patchwork pants" do you see at a show? Trust me, neither group is in line for a "Best Dressed" Award...

NASCAR fans proudly display their patriotism at races by waving flags and paying tribute to our armed forces...I've been to many Ratdog, Mike Franti, and other jam band shows where I've been told what to think politically and how to vote...once again, not the same political beliefs, but very similiar in how both groups feel it necessary to tell me how and what to think politically...

Jam band fans have their favorite group...and they usually "put down" those they don't like (we've seen that here many times)...NASCAR fans are the same...they cheer for their favorite drivers and boo the ones they dislike...

My point is, NASCAR fans and Jam band fans aren't much different...both are very loyal and very devoted...So before we start with the "redneck" put-downs, let's remember some people could find some stuff to make fun of with this group...

Hopefully, everybody can practice what they preach about tolerance and respect...because I hate to tell you...there's not much difference...

Im sure the Song "Drivin Rain" is the reason Warren got asked to do the score. It was on some Nascar cd a few years ago.Has James Hetfield and Claypool on bass for those who havent heard it. Nascar is not my thing at all but it is a big international deal now with races all over the country,Mexico,Japan and I think Canada next year, so I guess theres a lot of rednecks in the world huh.

Who cares what everyone on here thinks of NASCAR, that's not what this article is about. This just goes to show you how involved Warren Haynes is in all aspects of music; from playing the hottest Guilded I have ever seen last weekend in Charlotte to writing scores for primetime TV. Warren is the shit...period.

Oh by the way, correction to the article, the show airs at 10 pm tonight. The first 30 seconds will probably the the only portion of the show worth a damn.

Hey mon. Mullets, rednecks, freaks, hippies, hicks, blah, blah, blah. Think about a union between liberal jamband freaks and rural republican NASCAR fans. I look down my nose at the NASCAR scene as much as anyone who regularly visits this website, but with the current political climate in the USA and the upcoming election next year, it's easy to see that these two scenes have more similarities than differences. Think about it. NASCAR is basically a festival. See you at the polls...

Thats pretty sweet that ABC finaly got a good artist to do the music.

I find those commets about NASCAR fans to be sterotypical but not really true I know alot of NASCAR fans who arent rednecks myself included. Plus watching a good race is just as entertaing as going to concert. Finaly would it really suprise anybody if Warren is a NASCAR fan doesnt suprise me.

this sounds more toby keith than warren - but he's from neck-car country - as long as he keeps kicking ass on stage (see this year's roo show) i'm w/ him.

and not everyone in NC is a redneck

This is an interesting debate. I too see the many similarities between the Nascar crowd and the jamband crowd...following the tour around in bumpersticker laden RV's, vans and buses, a propensity for heavy drug and alcohol use, unnatural love for tailgating...well, you get the picture.

That said, I really wish that Jambase would give some coverage to Allman Brothers Tour that's going on right now. These guys are on fire right now. A few people mentioned that the show in Charlotte was hot, and I can attest that the show in Raleigh was amazing. Different setlists every night, different guest sit ins every night and lots of tunes that you might not expect (manic depression, anyone?). Watching Derek Trucks and Warren duel with Oteil and the ABB rhythm section backing them up is just too good for words. Catch this tour if you have a chance.

to the person up there who commented on the nascar blab blah redneck morons blah blah

it might have been like that in years past but i can assure you that here in indianapolis when the 'good ol boys' come to town there are a lot more 'yuppies' than 'rednecks'. i think it is cool that warren is doing this. in fact i think he got his start playing in merle haggards band if i am not mistaken. to each their own i suppose.
