Digable Planets: Butterfly and Doodlebug
Show Info
Digable Planets: Doodlebug & Butterfly + The Spacetones + Nato Caliph w/ DJ Crucial Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler and Craig “Cee Know the Doodlebug” Irving are two of the original founding members of the grammy award winning trio Digable Planets. After two gold selling albums and various soundtracks and radio/tv commercial productions Butterfly and Doodlebug have teamed up again to promote their respective solo careers which include Butterfly’s Cherrywine Project and Doodlebug’s Cosmic Funk Orchestra Project and also continue the tradition of experimental live hip-hop jazz fusion. The Spacetones are an independent intergalactic hip-hop trio from the vast tundras of Springfield, Missouri. Tahmipee (Rhymes) and Casey (Beats) got together in February of 2006 and began work on their first LP, “Serving You Something Tasty,” which is available for free. In late 2007, DJ Geeg was added to lineup to provide some sick cuts and add to the Spacetones’ live experience. The three are currently working on a follow-up record which promises to bring the spaciest grooves to ever come out of Springfield. The group uses no computers in the creation of their music, relying solely on drum machines, samplers, turntables, and occasionally live instrumentation to exhibit their unique sound. Known as The Move Man, Nato Caliph gets audiences on their feet and dancing to thought-provoking, socially conscious lyrics. The prolific Knowledge-Battle-Rhyme Spitter (as coined in his hit single Move Pt. 2) has collaborated with artists ranging from Murphy Lee of the St. Lunatics, Bits & Pieces, Soul Tyde and Konfusion to Creation. Well-known to underground hip-hop listeners, his impressive body of recordings have generated sales and interest from the Midwest (Vintage Vinyl, Disc Connection) to New York (Fat Beats) and across the globe via the Internet (virginrecordsonline.com, cdbaby.com, soundclick.com and funkytracks.com). 18+ $15 ($3 minor surcharge) 8pm-1am * myspace.com/digableplanets * myspace.com/cosmicfunkallstars
