Moon Taxi Pulls Out Of HeadCount Event During Republican Convention

As reported, non-partisan, non-profit organization HeadCount will host a pair of invitation-only “HeadCount Convention Jams” during the Democratic and Republican national conventions. Moon Taxi was set to play the event during the Republican national convention, but have just canceled on HeadCount.

Here’s the full statement from the band:

Due to the current political climate, we no longer feel comfortable performing at the nonpartisan Headcount.org event in Cleveland next week to promote voter registration. This is a divisive election, and we have always tried to support participation within the voting process through our friends at Headcount.org, but this performance is no longer a nonpartisan statement for us, the band. We are very respectful of the fact we have fans across the broad political spectrum, and we continue to encourage our fans to participate in the voting process.

The HeadCount Convention Jam featuring a performance from Moon Taxi was supposed to take place at the House Of Blues in Cleveland on July 18. The event’s congressional hosts were Reps. Marsha Blackburn, (R-Tennessee) and Mike McCaul, (R-Texas).
