The years-in-the-making Day Of The Dead Grateful Dead tribute curated by The National’s Aaron & Bryce Dessner will be released May 20 via 4AD. Aaron & Bryce recruited an incredible lineup of musicians to interpret many Dead classics for a new generation. All told, Day Of The Dead features 59 tracks and over five hours of music. Yesterday, Aaron Dessner and Scott Devendorf of The National were guests on the SiriusXM Grateful Dead channel talk show Tales From The Golden Road and unveiled the “Terrapin Station (Suite)” from the compilation.
The pair of band mates took call-in questions and discussed many aspects of the making of the 59-track release that will benefit AIDS/HIV awareness charity Red Hot Organization. During the show they played a very short clip of “Black Peter” recorded by ANOHNI and yMusic and a brief tease of “Uncle John’s Band” by Lucius. They also played the entire track of the record’s version of the complete “Terrapin Station (Suite)” featuring Daniel Rossen and Christopher Bear of Grizzly Bear, The National, as well as Josh Kaufman, Conrad Doucette, Sō Percussion and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.
