Electric Forest :: 6.25.16 :: Double JJ Ranch :: Rothbury, MI

This year’s installment of the Electric Forest festival continued on a hot and dusty Saturday in Rothbury, Michigan which left many attendees seeking shade. Festivalgoers were treated to a stacked day of music featuring a headlining performance from The String Cheese Incident that included an original debut (“Believe”) and a tribute to David Bowie and Prince. Saxophonist Karl Denson helped out as SCI mashed Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Kiss” with Bowie’s “Space Oddity” and “Let’s Dance” to the delight of the audience. SCI’s second set extravaganza also saw a fireworks display, fire dancers, inflatbable animal balloons, confetti and giant beach balls.

STS9 presented a rare “Axe The Cables” set containing many songs that hadn’t been played in the stripped-down format before including covers of Herbie Hancock’s “Rockit” and Miles Davis’s “So What,” while Hippie Sabotage made it through without any incidents like last weekend. Minneapolis hip-hop collective Doomtree got hands raised and bodies moving over at the Jubilee Stage. Other highlights included Porter Robinson impressing a huge crowd, Bassnectar delivering a crowd-pleasing set and Denson closing the night at the Jubilee Stage with a funk blowout.
