Bob Weir sat for an interview and played a trio of songs from his new album as part of the weekly CBS This Morning performance series Saturday Sessions. The episode featured the Grateful Dead guitarist speaking with the program’s Anthony Mason and performing at his recent concert held in Brooklyn at Kings Theatre.
Weir and Mason discussed the guitarist’s recently issued “cowboy songs” LP Blue Mountain and his lifelong love of the genre. Bobby also touched on the future of Dead & Company – the group he’s in with Dead drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart as well as John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti – reluctantly revealing there are plans for more shows by the ensemble.
The Saturday Sessions segment also featured Weir and his band of guitarist Steve Kimock, The National members Bryan Devendorf on drums, Scott Devendorf on bass and Aaron Dessner on guitar, and multi-instrumentalists Jon Shaw and Blue Mountain co-producer Josh Kaufman performing recently at Brooklyn at Kings Theatre as part of the just-wrapped Campfire Tour. Weir was shown leading the band on album cuts “Only A River,” “Ghost Towns” and “Cottonwood Lullaby” during the concert held last week.
