Highland County, VA: Puffenbarger Farm hosts Blue Grass Valley Music Festival

Sugar shacks, Fall foliage, and maple donuts won’t be the only things drawing folks to Highland County, Virginia this year. The Blue Grass Valley Music Festival is set to take place August 8th – 10th , returning back to its inaugural home at the Puffenbarger Farm, nestled among picturesque mountains in the heart of the Blue Grass Valley.

The family-friendly festival aims to promote economic growth in Highland County by celebrating the region’s cultural assets in the spirit of giving back to the community.

Aside from its breath-taking views, the three day event differs from other festivals taking place throughout the summer in that organizers have made a commitment to think locally. From blues to bluegrass, from rock to old-time twang, this year’s line-up offers listeners a variety of acts to satisfy diverse musical tastes, all the while promoting the rich talent that’s alive and well throughout the two Virginia’s.

With music beginning at 4 PM, Friday will feature sets from: Rare Gold, the Frog Pond Pickers, Yankee Dixie, Bourbon Barrel Congress, and The Hillbilly Gypsies.

Juanita Fireball will kick things of on Saturday, beginning at 11 AM. Followed with performances by: David and Valerie Mayfield, Hook&Bullet, The Judy Chops, Hound Dog Hill (featuring the Little Switzerland Cloggers), the Halftime String Band, BlueRock, and Sun-Dried Opossum.

Rounding out the weekend will be a showcase of regional acoustic gospel/bluegrass music on Sunday.

And while music certainly lives at the festivals core, it isn’t the only thing the Blue Grass Valley Music Festival has to offer. From farm-fresh food to local artisans; live art to regional brew, this year’s event will prove to be much more than a music fest. It’s an opportunity to give back, to enjoy summer and music in the Blue Grass Valley, all the while celebrating the life and culture in the precious mountain region it calls home.
