King Pelican is an instrumental rock and roll trio hailing from South Texas. KP digs the surf and instro sounds of the early 60s and brings the “tomorrow sounds of yesterday” into every tune they write and perform.
The trio is Ernest Hernandez III on guitar, Darren Kuper on drums, and Greg Norris on bass. They are seasoned veterans of the local music scene and pop culture fans of the Camelot years-when surfin’, hot rods, the space race and spy movies pre-occupied our aspirations and dreams.
King Pelican gigs feature the beach blanket fun of yesterday and the roots-rocking’ energy of today-with equal parts thundering surf beats, grooving bass lines and twangy, reverb-drenched guitars for a show you will dig!
The music of KP draws comparisons with The Ventures and Los Straitjackets but the group also draws inspiration from the surf music legends “The Centurions”, the enigmatic “Chandelles” as well instro rock and roll pioneer - “Link Wray”.
