Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, 7th DIRECTION has been performing steadily throughout California for the past 4 years to an ever growing fan base. They have received rave reviews from regional and national websites and magazines, including JamBase and Relix, and have toured throughout California, sharing stages with New Monsoon, Hot Buttered Rum String Band, David Nelson Band, Greggs Eggs, Transcendental Hayride, Blue Turtle Seduction and other national / touring groups. Cory Brown plays rhythm guitar, sings leads and writes lyrics and music for 7th direction. A So-Cal native Cory helped form the group soon after moving to the Bay Area. Cory's passion for music began at an early age, spurred by his father's success with the band Morning, and is evident throughout the musical stylings of 7th Direction.
Phil McGee provides the blistering lead guitar licks in the 7th Direction sound. A veteran of the Santa Cruz music scene now based in the East Bay, Phil has shared stages with national acts such as George Porter of the Meters, the Radiators, the Texas Tornadoes, Merl Saunders and Little Feat; Phil has performed with Zero, Steve Kimock, and Freddy Roulette to name a few. Phil brings a bluesy, improvisational edge to the sound.
Singer, songwriter, keyboardist Mike Goodin has been performing on stages throughout the West Coast for more than 10 years. He has extensive recording and stage performance experience. Most recently he founded, wrote music, and produced two CD’s for critically acclaimed No. Ca. jam-band Grasshoppers. His distinctive songwriting, voice and keyboard work bring a fresh sound to 7th Direction.
Assaf Jaffe plays bass and writes lyrics and music for 7th Direction. The Israeli songwriter worked with several small bay area projects before helping form 7th Direction in 2000. A student of poetry, native american culture and american folk history, Assaf's passion for storytelling and myth is evident in the lyrics he pens for the band.
Phil Hodges has been playing drums for over 20 years. He toured nationally and recorded with Taos Hum in the late 90’s. In addition to drumming for 7th Direction, Phil is also an accomplished session drummer, sought after drum teacher and operator of White Giraffe Productions, a musician’s services and production company (www.whitegiraffe.net). Phil’s precise timing and powerful drumming provide a solid backbone for 7th Direction’s music.
