Some stories have a moral and should be repeated. Some stories, well, seem to live at the edge of that stagnant pool of ditchwater off a dirt road in the panhandle of Oklahoma, just on the other side of the Colorado state line. And some are the stuff of legend. This story, however, is none of those. This is the story of Gumbo le Funque, a band so dirty, so funky, so dangerous, you'll slap yo' momma for not playing their music to you when you were the size of a small dog.
But seriously, Gumbo le Funque is a blues/funk band from Colorado with a contemporary New Orleans sound. Their influences include Lettuce, Galactic, Dr. John, Professor Longhair, The Funky Meters, The Radiators and even throwbacks from waaay back like Fats Waller and Pinetop Perkins. This funky modern roots music that pays homage to the musical melting pot that is the Big Easy. This is funky-dangerous party music.
