This six piece group based out of college-town Carrollton, GA has mastered the lost art of gathering around a single mic and playing with heart and humor. Even when they enter the world of electricity at bar and club gigs across the state they retain that back porch feeling while putting on a world class show.
Guitarist Matthew Perry Williams (Blueground Undergrass, Randall Bramblett Band) and Mandolin player Trey Young are actually brothers-in-law. Local music legend Jason "Panko" Wilson, who plays fiddle in the band, seems to be the whacky uncle of the bunch. Vocalist Amber Griffith sings with old school charm without sacrificing her new school confidence. Donny Wysoczynski (The Bugzappers) rolls the whole thing up with his tasty banjo chops.
In addition to original material, the Cowtown String band have been known to play a wide variety of tunes ranging from traditional old-time and bluegrass to songs by artists like Gillian Welch and Tom Petty. Without warning, Rick Astley might even strike if the mood is right. Cowtown String Band is a very fun and unique experience.
