Luba Dvorak & the Banned is the best unknown band in the world.
Luba in black attire and armed with an acoustic guitar has been called a Dylan-Forbert-Springsteen-Cash combo with his earthy vocal style and enticing storytelling. Dvorak fronts an able group of players through engaging sets. Luba's music is a blend of country and rock with the pedal steel playing a prominent role in his songs.
"Dvorak is personable with some chat between catchy numbers that feature colorful jamming. There is no one I've seen since Springsteen with stage presence and energy he brings." - soundpress
Born in a small town called Brno in what was then called Czechoslovakia Luba and his brother were taken by their parents on vacation to what was then called Yugoslavia. What they didn't mention to anyone was that they weren't coming back. After a year and a half of bouncing around Europe they finally settled in Vancouver, Canada.
The son of a blacksmith by trade and well-respected musician and not far in the family tree away from world renowned composer Antonín Dvořák, Luba started playing guitar at age twelve and never looked back.
After touring the US and Europe with different bands and solo Luba has taken his music to whole other level. Collaborating with his new band "the Banned" he recorded a collection of songs off his previous two albums entitled “Under the Radar”. They did ten songs live off the floor at Pilot Studios in New York. The album features Larry Oakes (Bad Company/Foreigner) on piano, Tony Tino (Gavin Degraw/ Southside Johny and the Asbury Jukes) on Bass, Mark Greenberg (Dickey Betts and Great Southern) on drums.
Since then “the Banned” has exploded with sound and talent adding Greg McMullen (Chris Whitley, Trixie Whitley) on pedal steel and local NYC legend Benny Landa (Carole King, Grahm Nash) on guitar.
Look for Luba Dvorak and the Banned as they bring their lonesome highway, New York style country fried rock and roll to a town near you and join them in their effort to spread the gospel of true great live music!!!
