Cynthia Sayer is regarded as the top 4-string jazz banjoist in the world today. A member of Woody Allen's jazz band for over 10 years, Cynthia's solo career has taken her well beyond these New Orleans roots to become an acclaimed bandleader and guest artist. She has a unique and expansive approach to the instrument which is all her own. Her eclectic repertoire ranges from swing to tango, western, classical, and more. Cynthia has worked with a variety of leading artists such as Marian McPartland, Wynton Marsalis, Dick Hyman, Bill Cosby, Warren Vache, Wycliffe Gordon, Les Paul, Marvin Hamlisch, John McEuen, Odetta, and many others. She has also performed with some of the top classic and progressive bluegrass players, including Tony Trischka, Béla Fleck, Eric Weissberg, and Mike Marshall.
Cynthia has accumulated numerous awards and honors, including induction into the National Banjo Hall of Fame. She is also a subject of a PBS documentary about the banjo to be aired in 2010. Cynthia's most recent release, "Attractions," which includes legendary jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, has received two 2009 award nominations.
