Pleasuremaker
Pleasuremaker Pleasuremaker is a culmination of the live band/dj experience. Bringing together in uences ranging from Afro-beat, disco, dub, funk, Brazilian, and electronic this rhythm heavy band builds it's dance oor geared original music on a solid platform of breakbeats. Combining classic breakbeat samples the live drum kit and percussion create a deep foundation for the hook led compositions and heavy bass lines. Joel Elrod holds down the drum kit with spot on time and feel so that the line between man and machine gets blurred. Brandon Lee anchors Joel on congos, djembe and backing vocals with impeccable time. Wendell Rand who is an accomplished veteran of the Bay Area music scene (Sila and the Afrofunk Experience) takes care of the bottom end with his low down bass grooves, laying into the already deep pocket. Band leader Joey McGuire rounds out the rhythm section playing rhodes, organ, synth, and guitar, as well as samples and brings a unique vocal style to accompany his socio-observational lyrics. The top layer of this bangin' musical concoction consists of the silky smooth and lyrical trumpet styling of Marcus Cohen (Rupa and the April Fishes) and the erce virtuosity and freshness from alto saxophonist, Kate. When Pleasuremaker hits folks are listening, but most importantly they are dancing. With a Thursday night DJ residency along with the live drummers they perform original music and remixes on a weekly basis to a packed house @ the highly esteemed Elbo Room in San Francisco, and perform regularly at the legendary Boom Boom Room, opening for such national acts as Pimps of Joytime (Brooklyn, New Orleans) and Skerik (Les Claypool, Garage-a-trois). Pleasuremaker builds o a deep catalog of McGuire's original material and bene ts from a natural uency amongst the musicians. Currently Pleasuremaker has been getting radio play by prominent djs on Bay Area stations, including KALX, KPFA and KUSF Catching a Pleasuremaker live show will leave a sweet taste in any live music lovers mouth and a fresh perspective on what de nes a live band. www.myspace.com/pleasuremaker pleasuremakermusic@gmail.com
