Experience Kef
Experience Kef Experience Kef, a five-piece band from Philadelphia, is breaking boundaries and exposing a new genre that travels into space with its tight grooves of jazz and funk, but comes crashing back to Earth with touches of folk and reggae. After much deliberation, the group coined the term "Folk-Fusion" to describe their music. Experience Kef has released both a five song EP and a full-length live CD and just relesed their debut album Songs of the Harvest in April 2007. The album is the culmination of five highly talented and learned students' experiences and emotions over the past few years. Urban life is an underlying theme, and the album is reflective of the musicians first hand experiences while living in West Philadelphia. Aside from recording, Experience Kef is no stranger to the live music scene in Philadelphia, and has taken the main stage at such prestigious venues as The Trocadero, World Café Live, and The Sellersville Theatre. Experience Kef was founded at the 2004 Philadelphia Folk Festival when the original members came together for an early-morning jam session. Since that time, the band has been playing consistently throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware. The group began building their excellent reputation by initially playing to college students in the University City section of Philadelphia. Performing at college parties and events enhanced the band's ability to play in a live setting while allowing them to acquire a significant underground following. Experience Kef has also won the Drexel University Battle of the Bands in 2005 and 2006, and earned a spot playing at the Drexel Spring Jam as supporting act for internationally acclaimed artists both years.
