A group of high school friends, Gadabout formed in the summer of 2007. What started off as informal jams quickly became a desire to create new music. The group wanted to create a sound mixing their favorite kinds of music; and with such varied taste among members their sound has become genre crossing, with tunes from Funk to Folk, and everything in between. Dan Mastronardi, owner of The Westcott Theater & Hollerback Productions has stated that Gadabout is, “An up and coming band to look for; mixing elements of jazz and funk."
The band thrives on their live show, and is always willing to perform. Over the years they have shared the bill with favorite local and regional bands, as well as national touring acts, such as The Benevento/Russo Duo, The Breakfast, Lionize, The Alternate Routes, and The Heavy Pets. Gadabout has also played many notable venues and events, such as Mezzanote Lounge, Funk n' Waffles, Hanover Square, University at Buffalo, and the Taste of Syracuse.
Between playing many shows throughout the Syracuse area, each member has studied with prominent music teachers, with an emphasis in jazz studies, which further enhances their musical abilities.
Gadabout has also recorded a demo, Soft Serve and Smoke (2007). This demo shows that the band’s future is a promising one. Tracks range from instrumental funk tunes to acoustic ballads.
Currently Gadabout continues to play, and write music despite being scattered across New York State for college. They are currently working on new material, with the addition of a keyboard to be played by guitarist Ryan Dann, for a full length studio album. The group continues to add to its fan base by playing live shows, and keeping one common thing in mind; get funky.
