Culver City Dub Collective is assembled, produced and creatively
grounded by two individuals: drummer/songwriter Adam Topol and
guitarist/engineer Franchot Tone.
CCDC's debut full length album, Dos, unites an all-star cast in a
captivating
blend of Jamaican roots reggae, Afro-Cuban rhythms and West Coast bossa
beats. It's an intoxicating breeze that rattles the brain in all the right
places, a
simmering soundtrack to a thousand road trips and hazy summer afternoons.
Released by Los Angeles-based Everloving Records (Cornelius, Metric,
Inara George, Don Cavalli), Dos represents a truly "collective" approach to
music making. The album features stunning appearances from such luminaries
as
Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Money Mark, Studio One vocalist Winston Jarret,
and Bedouin Soundclash singer Jay Malinowski.
Culver City Dub Collective has been touring for the last year in support of
Dos mixing in headlining giogs with opening slots with Toots and the
Maytalls,
The Wailers, Forro In The Dark, Greyboy AllStars, and ALO.
"Exotic rhythm wranglers the Culver City Dub Collective live and die by the
beat, and whether it's a Caribbean voodoo spell, a
hard Jamaican reggae spree, in-a-mellow-tone bop soliloquy or a shot of
straight-up downtown urban funk, the crazy little bastards
work it with everything they've got." -LA Weekly
"Rocking a smooth, soulful blend of Afro-Cuban beats, roots reggae, and funk
rhythms, locals the Culver City Dub Collective
bend their varied beats to create a cross-cultural, big-band groove that
sashays with a sense of reserved, yet
unquestionable, cool." -Flavorpill LA
"Culver City Dub Collective play the kind of music you just know will show
up on a Quentin Tarantino soundtrack
someday." -San Francisco Bay Guardian
"While their sonic palate includes strains of bossa nova and electronica,
this is, at root, a soul (and soulful) record. And their
roots certainly produce beautiful fruit." -Relix Magazine
