Since he first picked up a guitar as a young boy, Tim Reynolds has been pushing the musical envelope. His journey has spanned a multitude of instruments and genres, and has taken a musical road filled with complex and controversial twists. This wide-ranging cosmology continues to define Reynolds’ music to this day.
Chafing at the constraints of a conservative upbringing, he plunged into jazz and the “forbidden” late ‘60s and early ‘70s psychedelic rock. He eventually joined a group of experimental musicians, where he immersed himself in a number of musical styles, from progressive rock, jazz, and high-powered funk to classical and ethereal. Reynolds learned to play every instrument he touched—the bass, piano, sitar, mandolin, violin, solo djembe, and developed a command of electronic instruments.
Eventually, he migrated to the thriving musical community of Charlottesville, Virginia, where he founded TR3 and jammed night after night with other talented musicians. Earning the reputation as a musical virtuoso, Reynolds became known far and wide for his mind-bending guitar techniques, his trademark ability to improvise on any instrument, and his uncommon command of melody and dissonance. Reynolds bonded with another local musician, Dave Matthews, and the two joined forces, often in the studio and on tour.
Now Reynolds has struck out west to New Mexico and launched a solo career, where his dexterity and ferocity continue to soar. He keeps himself and his fans intrigued by mixing acoustic and electric shows, putting together side gigs (“Invisible Pagan Underdogs”), and throwing in multi-media touches. He continues to write and release music prolifically.
Reynolds will not compromise his creativity and artistic integrity. He reaches deeply into his musical soul, tapping into powerful feelings and channeling his passions. He continues to tirelessly promote peace and encourage change. As always, inspiration manifests itself in his music.
