Halifax indie rockers Wintersleep are very excited to announce the release of their new album, NEW INHERITORS. Set for a June 1st self-release, this collection of rousing, inspirational rock songs was recorded in Montreal and mixed in Glasgow with Tony Doogan (Mogwai, Teenage Fanclub.) The end result may be some of most expansive, dynamic, dark and courageous rock music you'll hear this year. To get fans excited, the band is offering title track, NEW INHERITORS, for free download at www.wintersleep.com. Beginning June 4th in Philadelphia, PA, Wintersleep will join Matt Pond PA for a 4-week North American tour.
While the band's lyrics have usually focused on the personal, the songs on NEW INHERITORS lean towards a bigger worldview. The narrator is a voyeur, commenting on situations rather than being in those situations itself. Moments and memories are alluded to across multiple songs, and an overarching theme of alienation and despondency come up repeatedly. But make no mistake - this is not a miserable record. From album opener, Experience The Jewel to the closer Baltic, NEW INHERITORS is an intoxicatingly beautiful album full of meticulously-crafted rock songs.
Along with the NME, Q, Clash and many more, Pitchfork raves" Wintersleep have a tendency to cut straight for the gold with infectious guitar lines and persuasive, high-energy choruses." Alternative Press agrees, calling the band's music "rich and heavily textured, yet containing enough melody to satisfy even the most insatiable hipshakers" while Mojo praised Wintersleep as "Canada's best kept secret" and raves "musically they're now on par with Band of Horses, with engulfing waves of FM-friendly sound and the odd glimpse of Interpol's steely glare."
NEW INHERITORS is the follow up to the bands critically acclaimed album, WELCOME TO THE NIGHT SKY, which saw them win a Juno Award for "Best New Band," and open for Paul McCartney, Pearl Jam and Editors.
