The music of the Byron Space Circus creates an experience full of energy for a wide variety of audiences to absorb on many levels. Blending well thought compositions with a mix of funk grooves, gritty psychedelia and spacious ambient sounds as well as employing a wide array of vintage gear and modern technology has created an eclectic
and distinctive sound. The Byron Space Circus has been influenced by and compared to Pink Floyd, The Meters, Air, Medeski, Martin and Wood, Jean-Luc Ponty and Tool to name a few.
Micah Ofstedal(guitar), Jason Felten(bass) and Chris Lynch(keys, violin, vocals) have leveraged off their childhood friendship and countless performances in Minnesota to forge a collaborative musical endeavor. Knowing each other so well for so long has proved to be an integral part of creating their music, defining their sound and refining their stage presence. Since their move to the west coast they have teamed with native Californian Chanda Cummings on drums and vocals. Adding lyrics to what was primarily an instrumental sound has further stretched the boundaries and accessability of the band. Thru a dedicated pursuit the music has grown tighter and more composed as their song writing has evolved. The diversity of the music highlights their infinite influences and experiences.
Having played many shows for audiences throughout California and Minnesota a Byron Space Circus performance has developed to create a loose atmosphere full of amusement and playfulness while also pursuing a genuinely transformational experience for themselves and their audience. Often a BSC show will include costumes, light show and visual projection. Many senses are at work during their lively and memorable performances.
Byron Space Circus has enjoyed a loyal fan base from Minnesota which has since spread to Santa Cruz and beyond. They are fortunate enough to have fans, friends and family in many cities throughout most of the West Coast. It is this BSC camaraderie that everyone feeds off of creating a good time for all.
