Harmony Grits
Harmony Grits Harmony Grits, from Santa Cruz, CA have been a seminal counterculture-traditional acoustic band since the mid 80's. Since the early days they have been a featured main stage act at High Sierra and Strawberry, California's flagship music festivals. The Grits' originals and covers show a thorough love and knowledge of American roots music from one turn of the century through the next. They play a lot of bluegrass and also stretch in to all related genres, often connecting medleys of tunes with long improvisational jams. There is a direct historical line connecting the early Appalachian music and blues through Monroe and the Stanleys, Bob Wills, through the Dead and Gram Parsons, Old and in the Way, and then evolving in to bands like the Harmony Grits, Hot Rize, Leftover Salmon and more recently Yonder Mountain and Railroad Earth. Harmony Grits are an important part of that proud legacy. Their cult classic "Gospel Bong" is a perennial underground hit. Catch the Grits sometime, you'll dig them.
