Debut Album Ultra Payloaded Satellite Party to hit Stores on May 15th 2007

Perry Farrell
Los Angeles, CA -Alternative rock originator and one of music's most influential figures, Perry Farrell, has announced that on May 15, 2007 he will hit the airwaves with his most anticipated creation to date: Satellite Party. His new group is a bold and ambitious project that finds the founder of Lollapalooza in his first post-Jane's Addiction recording effort, creating an innovative conceptual album entitled Ultra Payloaded Satellite Party (Columbia Records). The idea behind Satellite Party was born out of Farrell's passionate belief that one step at a time people can change the world, and with this endeavor, he is launching a musical movement to do just that. Weaving together an array of genres with Farrell's modernist thinking, the music of Satellite Party tells a story through a collaborative brain trust of artists, musicians and environmentalists called The Solutionists, who seek to redesign and come up with solutions for the world.

Blending sounds as varied as rock, electro, urban beats and symphony, Farrell enlisted guitar virtuoso Nuno Bettencourt with new musicians Kevin Figueiredo on drums, Etty Lau Farrell on background vocals and Carl Restivo on bass. The album, produced by Farrell, co-produced by Nuno Bettencourt and executive produced by Steve Lillywhite, features a host of guests participating in the recording, including The Red Hot Chili Peppers Flea and John Frusciante, UK production duo/beat-makers Hybrid, New Order/ Joy Division bassist Peter Hook, down tempo pioneers Thievery Corporation, Porno for Pyros' guitarist Peter DiStefano, Black Eyed Pea's Fergie, film composer Harry Gregson-Williams (Chronicles of Narnia, Kingdom of Heaven), and a 30-piece orchestra.

One of the album's highlights features an unreleased Jim Morrison vocal track, the first unheard Morrison performance in almost 30 years. Entitled "Woman In The Window," Morrison sings against a backdrop of Farrell's music, "Just try and stop us, we're going to love" before the song culminates with an elegant piano outro. Farrell calls the track the mantra of The Solutionists. Other tracks include "Wish Upon A Dog Star," which is also the album's first single, "Kinky," and "Celebrate," a Sly Stone-like groove marrying calypso and disco. Farrell also shows his softer side on the tender "Awesome," written about seeing the world from the heavens, which marries David Bowie-esque vocals with the understated beauty of Nick Drake.

After assembling what would become one of the greatest rock bands of all time, Jane's Addiction, in the early 80's, Perry Farrell has continued to be one of music's cultural leaders and most important figureheads. Farrell and Jane's Addiction revolutionized the rock scene, and from there Farrell went on to conceive Lollapalooza, the seminal music festival that encapsulated youth culture and launched the traveling concert experience touring industry in the U.S. With a successful transformation from a "touring rock show" to a "destination festival" in 2005, Lollapalooza gave Chicago in 2006 its largest party in the city's history with 180,000 people attending over a three day weekend. Now Farrell is preparing to do it all again with his landmark Satellite Party project.

Three years in the making, Ultra Payloaded Satellite Party is an album that will further cement Farrell's status as one of world's true artistic visionaries. In continuing to look at ways to marry his love for music and drive to inspire change, the project marks a new chapter in his recording career. More than just an album, Ultra Payloaded Satellite Party is a wake-up call that is imbued with the same passion and idealism with which Farrell has lived his life-- from working to better the environment when he took his proceeds from Lollapalooza to work with the Costa Rican government to help preserve the rainforest, to human rights when he raised a substantial amount of money for the relief fund and the rescuing of slaves in Sudan. Perry Farrell and Satellite Party are currently working closely with Stop Global Warming (www.stopglobalwarming.com) and Global Cool (www.global-cool.com) to cool off the planet Yet, while there is a story within Satellite Party, it is still an album first and foremost, and it's a record that finds Farrell in prime form.

Keep trying, Perry. It's all passed you by.

Nice catch with Fergie and buying the rights to a Morrison vocal track.

Perry Farrell haters?...you all must be out of your minds. And what's your problem w/ Fergie? Yah she's pop, but whatever the Black Eyed Peas are aight with me. I just think its really really really sad when a great article like this comes by and a few people see a word (Fergie), and are so bummed out by the whole situation that their response to this terrific situation presenting itself to them is.....'ugh'. Why even read these articles if you are going to be like that, then post that afterwards? Besides, everyone know that you love pop music anyway Ninja...

Perry Farrell deserves his props. He reinvented the festival during the 90s with Lollapalooza. This project is something new and refreshing in a music industry that has become so stale and predictable. Someone needs to take a chance on innovation and change.

Saw the Satellite Party last wednesday at a tiny club called Spaceland in Los Angeles last wednesday.
Top Notch.
Best Perry has sounded in years.
The record should be good.

Perry is an amazing talent and for everyone who is to young to remember what janes addicition did to the music scene 20 years ago, you should educate yourselves a little. They lead the way for Nirvana. I suggest reading the latest book on janes, Whore. It is a collection of quotes from Perry's band mates, ex lovers, musicians from the LA scene during those years and even the record producers of those first monumental janes albums, simply amazing stories. I'm sure this album will be great and including Thievery Corp. is so sweet. See you at Lolla 07!

Why is this even on a jambands related webpage? Don't all of the corporate whores mentioned above get enough mention on corporate radio and its official rag Rolling Stone? For every mention of a no talent piece of garbage like Fergie, this website should owe us a three page feature on an up and coming indie group.

Oh my, those corporate sell outs also mentioned Harry Gregson-Williams, what a hack! All of the crybaby, wannabe culture police, fake hippies should step off the finger pointing trip. Real jam band fans like good music and have open minds.

Perry Farrell has created a lot of great, innovative music and deserves some respect. If he included Fergie, he must have thought she had something worthwhile to contribute. If it sounds good, has a nice beat and/or meaningful vocals - it is good, whether it was produced by the Disco Biscuits or Bob Dylan. At least listen to the tracks before whining about sell outs because you want to come off as the dankest "real" hippie around. Why do you feel the need to police jambands content? The more info, the better. Wankers!

ok, ok. so i will give credit where credit is due and will give this a shot. after all, back in 95 the circle jerks cut a track with debbie gibson that wasn't so bad. and i do love pop music. nothing like a good pop ditty. thats what made the cars such a great band but i was down with black eyed peas back in the day before fergie came along and they still had underground cred. once, she came along the black eyed peas just didn't sound the same.

Well, I have nothing against Perry. His festival contributions are noted, and they did include my fave, Panic, last year. I wanted to see what was going down with genuine curiosity, and instead find a pop compilation. The glam-pop album discussed has no relevance here. As in the title this is JAMbase! There are plenty of places to read about The problem I have is when the pop stars get included, and writers ignore what it really is, a cash cow. The list of contributors just screams novelty. And RS will hail it as genius, while continuing to diss the releases of bands like Panic and moe without even acknowledging the lesser known jammers. As for Fergie making a worthwhile contribution, if a way to measure were found I'd bet my soul she has never contributed anything worthwhile about anything. For Christ's sake, we're talking about the author of My Humps and Fergilious! Off soapbox now.

i cant stand fergie, i cant wait until she gets old and loses her looks so i wont have to see her on TV every 5 seconds. and how come whenever someone writes anything negative about an article or artist someone else always has to blast back with something like.."your ignorant" or "Why even read these articles if you are going to be like that, then post that afterwards?" dude, i hate fergie and it feels effing good to voice my hatred about her to everyone..its a free world dammit!

I love Perry and Jane's Addiction! The original Jane's Addiction that is. They are easily one of the greatest and most important bands of the last 20 years. I love Perry,Dave,Perk and Eric, always have and always will and therefore I will always give their new stuff a chance. But I will say this, they will never reach the same level in music as they did with the early Jane's.

Strays in my opinion was absoulutely horrible, but I believe it was becuase of the absence of Eric and I also believe that Bob Ezrin contributed to a lot of the suck.

Dave and Perk's new band The Panic Channel is even worse and I really hope they end soon.

Perry's solo album Song Yet to be Sung was a little too electronica for me but it did have some pretty cool ideas behind it. I think Satellite Party could turn out to be a pretty strong band and therefore Perry should be given a chance by all.

I believe I heared not too long ago that Eric will be releasing a solo album later this and that could be something to look forward to, Eric has always been a fine artist.

This web site is called JamBase and while a majority of the bands featured on here are considered "jam bands" I do believe that any artist or band who makes true music should be included. I do believe I have seen bands like Nine Inch Nails and the Smashing Pumpkins featured on here in the past.

The whole labeling or categorizing of a band is stupid anyway. It creates too many boundaries and restrictions. An artist should never be put into one group, they should be allowed to expand into all styles and genres freely. It's just better for the music that way.

Also, Perry and the musicians he has played with over the years have definitely JAMMED a whole lot! I guess none of you have ever heared a 12 minute version of "Pigs in Zen" just as one example.

To call Perry a Pop Star is a sin. That's like calling Brtiney Spears an artist.

As far as Perry coming up with the Lolla and the Janes and to some extent decent Pornos stuff, cool. That all ended about 1995. Lolla flamed out due to corporate influence (ahem, Bonnaroo), Perry couldn't get a band together. Reunited Janes that was a money grab. And lots more good, bad, and otherwise.

I have a question because I don't want to seem down on Perry... but if Trey can't catch a break, why should this guy? Could you see Trey having Fergie, a purchased Morrison Track, etc...? Wasn't Satellite Party completely different musicians at Lolla (yes, that would have been the No Doubt guy on Bass).

I just think that you can respect someone's past without lapping at what he's doing now.

That all having been said, I really dislike Perry because I feel he is responsible for Dave Navarro.

i agree with the ninja about the peas. i used to dig em and thought they were even kindof innovative back in the day but once they hired fergie it all went downhill. she is just candy but perry must of found something sweet about her to invite her to the satellite party.

everything perry touches is brilliant. i still listen to the old triple x album of janes and ritual is one of the most perfect road trip albums. pfp's good gods urge was really nice on the ears and i always wanted to hear more from them. i remember seeing porno for pyros doing some janes songs and it sounded beautiful. strays wasnt a masterpiece but i bought it and have listened to it more than twice. sung yet to be sung was great too and i loved seeing peretz live.

perry is a true inspiration and i have been waiting for anything new from him for awhile. the morrison vocal is an obvious dedication to the original venice scenester who taught perry "it's all about hype!"

thievery and farrell sounds good to me. their collaboration on the last two theivery albums was alright, but theivery are the masters of the down tempo scene.....all they can do is make him sound better. Perry was a HORRIBLE dj...I'm glad he gave that up. I've never heard a DJ run a needle accross and entire record in the middle of a set....he was actaully mauling his vinyl he was so substandard. new band sounds interesting...although fergie? thumbs down on that move

You guys give Perry a break. Jane's always rocked. Porno rocked. The reunited Jane's rocked with Flea. Even if Perry is a crazy bastard, and he IS, he comes up with great concepts and is truly a modern day Renassaince Man.

This looks cool. John and Flea are great collaborative musicians, regardless of what you think of the Peppers - check out the last two Mars Volta albums.....

The Jim Morrison thing is interesting...Perry may do something very cool with that...check some extended live versions of "Three Days" or "Summertime Rolls" for the basis of that opinion.

I'm not sure where Fergie fits in, but to me she's instantly cooler because Perry wanted to include her.

Nuno may have been in a wanker girly metal band but the dude can SHRED.

I'm often guilty of being a big prick about music, and sometimes I later figure out I was wrong. I haven't heard this stuff obviously, so I can't call you haters wrong.

I will say that I "for one" and very excited about this project.

Ohhhh....and the "Trey comparison"...from Luther....

"I have a question because I don't want to seem down on Perry... but if Trey can't catch a break, why should this guy? Could you see Trey having Fergie, a purchased Morrison Track, etc...?

Where did that come from? What would Trey do with Fergie or a Morrison song???? Better yet, what would Trey do with Fergie, a Morrison song, and a NEW song that didn't make you want to hide in a closet and stab yourself with a steak knife?

Trey got a break and made the most of it. He won't get another one until he starts writing music that his fanbase wants to hear....
