This January and February, Paris based singer-songwriter and guitarist Piers Faccini will return with his band including Jack Johnson's drummer Adam Topol to select primary and secondary U.S. markets for performances with the Wood Brothers, Matt Costa, Cold War Kids, Nanci Griffith, Culver City Dub Collective and Ritmo Y Canto.
Just off the road as an opener for Ben Harper's European tour, Piers Faccini is set to tour the U.S. in support of his debut album Tearing Sky (Everloving Records). Produced by JP Plunier (Ben Harper, Jack Johnson), Tearing Sky is a collection of 14 tracks culled from classic English folk music, Mississippi delta blues and North African rhythms. With his soft tone and hypnotic songwriting, Piers Faccini takes on an almost Shaman-like quality, conjuring the late cult figure Nick Drake and Malian bluesman Ali Farka Toure.
Tearing Sky features a collective of players who spend the bulk of their year backing Ben Harper and Jack Johnson. Ben Harper guest appears on the album, as does Innocent Criminals' bassist Juan Nelson, percussionist Leon Mobley and drummer Oliver Charles, and Jack Johnson's drummer Adam Topol and bassist Merlo Podlewski. The album is released on Everloving Records, the indie label that put out Jack's debut record Brushfire Fairytales.
Very much the world traveler and musical nomad within the Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Donavon Frankenreiter, Matt Costa crew, Piers Faccini first received critical acclaim from European critics with his 2004 European debut, Leave No Trace. In recent months, Piers has hit U.S. markets as an opener for blind Malian sensations Amadou & Mariam, Susana Baca, Jonah Smith and the Culver City Dub Collective.
Veritably a musical collage drawn from his travels around the globe and from his own eclectic lineage, Tearing Sky marks the journey of a songwriter embarking on the essential cornerstones of what life is really about. Being born and dying, loving and hating, God...
