Flaming Lips/ Primus/ Morning Teleportation :: 08.03.11 :: Red Rocks Amphitheatre :: Morrison, CO

Anticipation was high for this show, and it sold out way in advance. Newcomers Morning Teleportation provided superlative talent in the primer spot for a double header of heavyweight entertainers. Not only would both Primus and The Flaming Lips play a full set, the Lips set was billed to be the Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety.

Morning Teleportation recently landed with Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock’s label Glacial Pace Recordings. The young band stood up to the challenge and delivered a great set of material from their recent release Expanding Anyway. Be on the lookout as these guys continue to make their mark.

Primus delivered nothing short of perfection. Trying out new material and offering up classics like “My Name is Mud.” The band’s usual stage presence was enhanced through the borrowed usage of The Flaming Lips lighting and visual screen. Throughout the set a nice sea of eye candy spun to the music, bookcased by the Primus trademark spacemen.

As a band The Flaming Lips have always been great. As entertainers they are over the top, and innovative. Wayne Coyne’s oddities continue to evolve, and the band’s decision to play the Dark Side album seemed to peak his curiosities more than usual. Rather than trying to review the action in words here is the whole evening played out in imagery.
