Former Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr was found dead inside his home in Salt Lake City, Utah yesterday, he was 44 years old. The cause of death is still unknown.
An original member since their formation in 1987, Starr played bass on debut album Facelift, released in 1990, and the follow-up breakthrough Dirt from 1992. He subsequently left the group due to a developing drug addiction in 1993. Original Alice in Chains lead singer Layne Staley died in April 2002 from a lethal injection of heroin and cocaine known as a “Speedball.”
Starr resurfaced in 2010 to be treated for heroin addiction in the third season of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, as well as the spinoff show Sober House. He was arrested last month for felony possession of a controlled substance (six pills of Oxymorphone, and six pills of Xanax). Check out a few highlights below of Starr’s time with Alice in Chains.
