The JOIN is a musical unit created by Shields and Shearer that hosts a revolving door of musicians depending on which area of the world they’re in, as well as what show setting they find themselves a part of. It’s genus began back in 2007 with a sold out West Coast tour which featured David Murphy (STS9) on bass and has grown into a much larger concept than expected, featuring players from Umphrey’s McGee, the Duo and others.
This is the fourth run of JOIN shows that has included the boys from Bisco. “We have a really special connection with Aron and Marc” says Darren, “and it seems to take on a life of its own in the JOIN. We’re very excited to be playing with them again.”
The unusual set-up of two keyboard players and no guitar player makes for a dance-floor driven and layered sound that truly floods the audience, creating an extremely large pocket of groove. The shows are completely improvised and created in the moment.
With the increasingly busy schedule of both the New Deal and the Disco Biscuits, happenings of this particular incarnation are becoming increasingly rare and should not be missed.
