Ummm . . . yeah Umphrey's is kind of trumped up fratjam rock. They are trying to get a little too big for their britches. I used to see them at Dead Creek Campground when Phish would play 3 nights at Deer Creek and they were really cool and now they are just trying to gain the fame. Their studio stuff captivates a different audience than their live shows and its like nutsack says, generic in way that they don't really want to classified as a jamband and if MTV came to them and wanted to a song of theirs on one of their crappy reality shows they would jump at the notion. Take a side and keep it fresh and committed boys.

......And you came to this shitty conclusion how? Been seeing these guys for a while now. As the venues they play grow bigger, it seem their heads are staying right sized. But what do i know? i didn't catch them in the campgrounds at deer creek.

I have never seen this collaboration before, AND I am excited. Good to see that people have such a negative opinion of these guys (when they have no clue what they are about)...hopefully I will see some of these folks at the show, so I can hear their opinion on shitty the music will be. I will check them @ SOHO so I can form an opinion. Right now, I believe it will be fun!!

They need to bust out some ol' Megadeth covers, Chris Poland tore it up on Peace Sells..........This sounds like an interesting combo, Umphrey's keep you on your toes.

quality getting down considering the progressive style...doesnt sound as intense as umphreys usually does when they do the alternative junk

the members from umphrey's mcgee are the hardest working musicians on the road today...you cant deny this.

I've probably seen Umphrey's 15 or 16 times, and they just don't put it together on a consistent basis, they over compose, and loose the real groove - and yes, what has it been with frat party central at the last 3 or 4 shows I've been too, I think that's been a larger factor to keep me away than the hit or miss music. - Hardest working musicians on the road today? WOW, there's an overstatement...

noting worse than a phish music snob... phish this and phish that, what about soul? dont get me wrong, i love phish but seeing a screen name containing phish knocking um, ha. in my humble opinion,

They maybe the hardest working people today.....but it still doesn't mean it sounds good to my ears to hear them. HAHAHAHAH. Umph is just to whack for me. The good need to outweigh the bad and this is not the case with them.

i think they could be alot better band if they were smaller, you know, 1 guitar, 1 drum. not so much trance, a litter more jam. they are talented but dont really dig the style

I'm 11 years old and have been touring around with this band for about 5 years now. On December 30th 2007 in Chicago I was gettin real shwilly takin' thumb prints, spinnin like I jis don't care, and I went into the show and was really feelin it, ya know groovin to the gitdown. Then I realized at the end I had been raging Tortoise the whole time and I thought it was weird that Bayliss was playing the vibraphone. That's when I knew that bobalvin's comment was ironic and why The Um and Bisco tour was called DUMB. I know I can't figure it out either. Excuse me while I lay down, close my eyes, smear on some lipstick and put Farmhouse on infinite repeat. Good luck with the rest of your lives.

umphrey's is the shit. hand's down...i've yet to hear a band within the past 10 years that can even compare to umph. too all the haters: pick up an instrument...see how well you compare to the likes of jake cinnenger. quit your bitching. as for phish: i'm as big a phish fan as the next guy...but the bottom line is phish is only together cuz trey's broke.

sounds like a badass collaboration.. it is completely ridiculous to compare Umph and Phish. they are two very different bands each with unique improv styles.. and to say that Umphrey's is a fratjam band is ignorant. give stuff a chance before you judge..

Umphreys is a great band. Haters will hate no matter what band it is. Go to any post on jambase with any band and people will bitch and moan. Anybody who thinks Umph is not good has not given them a chance. Some bands are an aquired taste and you need to learn their music in depth before you understand them. Lay off the Umph.

I completely agree with Evandw's statement that Um is hit or miss sometime. I'm going to the show tonight in Santa Barbara and really looking forward to it. Rob Pagliari is a fantastic bass player...should add a lot to the band.
