DMB: Free New Album Download

DAVE MATTHEWS BAND RELEASE FREE DOWNLOAD OF NEW SINGLE
FOR ONE WEEK ONLY STARTING TODAY, RELEASE TRAILER FOR UPCOMING ALBUM

Dave Matthews
Through a "tweet" on Twitter today, Dave Matthews Band have announced that they are giving away their new single, "Funny the Way It Is," as a free download for one week. Dave (@davejmatthews) and bassist Stefan Lessard (@slessard) are both very active on Twitter, keeping touch with their huge fanbase and decided it was the perfect place to get the word out. The song comes off their upcoming album, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, which hits stores on June 2. It will be the band's first studio album since the death of saxophonist LeRoi Moore last summer. The "GrooGrux King" in the album title refers to Moore's nickname within the group. Matthews created all of the artwork for Big Whiskey, including the richly detailed cover illustration that puts a GrooGrux spin on New Orleans' traditional Mardi Gras parades while evoking the joy and the sorrow expressed in the album's songs. Matthews has designed logos and other elements in the past, but this is the first time he has created the entire packaging for a Dave Matthews Band album.

Guitarist Tim Reynolds will play on the album, making it his first recording with DMB since 1998's Before These Crowded Streets. The album was produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Goo Goo Dolls). Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King will also feature the recording debuts of Rashawn Ross who joined the band in 1996 but hadn't played on any of their studio releases yet and Moore's replacement, saxophonist Jeff Coffin who also is a member of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. DMB just released a trailer for the new album which can be seen here:

Dave Matthews Band kicks off its 2009 tour tonight with a show at Madison Square Garden in New York City and will be on the road through October 2. Please go here for a full itinerary of the band's spring and summer tours – and also check www.davematthewsband.com for the launch of the Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King pre-order later this week. Fans who pre-order the CD at the band's website will receive the group's upcoming live album, Live Trax 15, for free. Live Trax 15 captures the group's August 9, 2008 show at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, WI, one of the most fan-requested shows for release from last year's summer tour.

Amazing. Any true Dave fan who sees should be getting ready like the true Phish fan is ready for this tour. When Boyd remembers Leroi in this video we can just be like boy, man, god, shit. I wish Leroi was here on this album.

Im really looking forward to hearing this album, They have to redeem themselves for the garbage that Stand Up was. But honestly after listening to this new song a few times, i think it kinda sucks. Ive seen this band over 15 times dating back to 1995 and they just seem to keep dissapointing me everytime i try to get excited about them again

nice, new DMB! interested to hear them w/ the new lineup. that being said, does anyone else shirk from entering your mobile phone number in exchange for a free download? e-mail address was one thing, but I'm definitely not going for this....

I am excited for the album simply because i love their music and remember being 4 years old listening to remember two things in my dad's portable cd player. I have grown up on DMB and their music simply makes me happy. I am not to excited for the new album but rather to hear these tracks preformed this summer. DMB is a live act, in my opion Drive in Drive Out is the only DMB song that is better on the album than preformed live. These songs will be just as good as the ones on Stand Up, enjoyed better live. This one's for you LeROi.

Listened to the new song. I like it. Very interested to hear the whole album. I think DMB turns a page in their career with this one. Massive tour too, can't wait!

not really a big dave fan. Went to spac last year.He def has some good jams though. Good vibes for the most part, as good as a bunch of hamered college kids can be.

spac was one of the last shows i think with the old sax player. Def glad to have made it.

Interested to see how the new stuff turns out. Should be good, hes touring with some really good bands, and free music? how do you complain about that?

After listening to the new song i really think this album could be a big step forward for the Band. I was really disappointed with stand up as well as the tour to follow. This album might be the thing to restore my faith in the DMB.

I've been a DMB fan since "Under The Table" first came out. Though their studio albums have severly diminished since "Before These Crowded Streets" came out, nothing will ever take away their 90's albums, or their phenominal live shows. It sounds like this album is a return to improvised jamming songs and DMB fans welcome it with open arms. It's very hard to lose a brother, and they'll be playing their hearts out for him every night. RIP Leroi

For once I am actually happy for dave, there was many times i think about the shows i used to see of DMB and tim and dave shows in the early and mid90's and remembering being on Grateful Dead tour ( I cant say the dead ne more, it just feels wierd); and when they opened for them at 3 rivers i believe it was and they were f'ing awesome it was like they got some of the vibe passed and sprinkled on them. Who came out for drumz but Leroi and Carter!!! Yes this new group in exactly that ! A new group as one who finished with DMB years ago but still has an earful once and again I would like to tell those who are more into DMB that the vibe "sprinkled on them" from their opening with the boys (the real boys btw not PHISH ) IS STILL there!!! this new incarnation will be GREAT and the new album shows this!

saw their kick off to the tour last night at MSG. Pretty stellar performance. Greg Allman came out and sang "melissa" too. can't complain about that. i think this will be a good tour for dave, although leroi was very missed.
