The Melvins Celebrate 25 Years

MELVINS CELEBRATE SILVER (25TH) ANNIVERSARY
PLAN SPECIAL "EVENING WITH" PERFORMANCES IN MAY

The Melvins
The Melvins are turning twenty five, and marking the occasion with a group of celebratory shows set for mid-May in New York, Boston, Chicago and Austin.

The four shows will be an "evening with" the band and feature a first set with the original lineup of Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover (on bass) and original drummer Mike Dillard. For the second set Buzz, Dale and Trevor Dunn (bass player for Fantomas, Mr. Bungle) will perform Houdini in its entirety.

"We're living on borrowed time." explained Buzz. "When the Melvins started I never expected to actually be ALIVE for 25 more years."

The Melvins formed in 1984 in Montesano, Washington, a small town on the west coast of the state. Crover and Osborne have been the two constant members of the band over their twenty-five year history. In that time, the group has been labeled and re-labeled with each passing musical fad but have outlasted each categorization and shone through as a creative entity that is unclassifiable. While the band came to mainstream prominence in the mid-90’s, the Melvins’ most recent releases (Nude With Boots, (A) Senile Animal) have been their most critically and commercially well-received albums to date. Couple that with their seemingly endless influence on other musicians and it’s easy to see why the Melvins have become one of the most well-respected bands of a generation.

The shows are:
05/15/09 Fri Webster Hall New York, NY
05/16/09 Sat Paradise Rock Club Boston, MA
05/18/09 Mon Double Door Chicago, IL
05/20/09 Wed Emo's Alternative Lounge Austin, TX

The Melvins are one of the greatest 'underground' bands of all time. I saw them once open for Mr Bungle back in 1989. The crowd didn't get them, and booed them off the stage. I thought it was a sick ass set. Mike Patton the rest of Mr Bungle came out and didn't do anything but stand there for 15 minutes letting the feedback of their amps annoy the crowd. They left the stage and came back on stage 1/2 hour later. What a night!

The Melvin's would be sweet to see especially with the Bungle bass player!!! The tour is a little short, I know they are getting old but lets see some southeast and west coast love!

^ yo weedhead. step away from the bong and get your music news from other sources than jambase.

Melvins tour more than most young bands out there. They've done at least three runs of the west coast in the last year.

They always play a small bar here in Orange County, and always blow the place up!!!!!
