These reviews are gonna make me explode! Can't wait for summer tour!!
Fishman's drumming is underrated?
What is a Phish? Where is this Hampton Coliseum? Why are we not talking about Panic?
June 15th can't come sooner. I will not be getting ANYTHING done the rest of this semester. But there will be a huge smile on my face in the meantime. =)
hey Swartzbach, excellent review. Unpretentious, clear, and concise. Awesome show, great job!
To the writer: thank you for such great and lengthy reviews. When I read a review, I normally look at the style and structure of the writing, but you are producing lengthy reviews at an absurd pace, and that is after assumedly dancing your ass off for 4 hours! Much thanks! The dedication and love for music really comes through in your reviews.
THANKS!!!
great reviews great pictures thank you jambase! so sunday nights set could include down w/ disease, wilson, ya mar, twist, pebbles and marbles, 46 days, Frankenstein? just a thought
Guyute, Bathtub Gin... Start covering GD songs here and there !!!
the pictures confirm it, Fishman still has a moo moo/ dress fetish... somethings never change.
FAITH NO MORE!!!!
Wislon opener for sure!
Good review. Love the pics!
Why is Guelah Papyrus listed as "first time played"?
...since the reunion?
I noticed that too dmartin, theyve definitely played guelah before!
Let me get this clear, LEO IS ON LIKE DONKEY KONG.
Gamehenge tonight, anyone?
Harpua
right on. good article. on point. I wasnt there, but I've listened intently to both show. They're nailing it... I just wish they wouldnt have fucked up the end of pyite so bad.. one of my favorite songs. By this summer this band is going to be so on fire, you'll spontaniously combust just by proximity.
To say that the second set opened "with a sizzling "Rock and Roll" and then simply move on is nearly criminal! PLEASE NOTE: PHiSH IS BACK! Anyone with any doubt should turn their 'drums to this jam, which seems to me be a revivification of what I heard as Phish's actual STYLISTIC PROGRESSION (removed from the negative influences, and focusing on the musical progression post-hiatus, which, though some may doubt it, did indeed occur) around '04 -- and, in this jam, they take that style they'd developed, SHINE it, and run with it -- awesome!
I was at Saturday, not any other day, but I got the tapes for free @ livephish.com -- LISTEN! (SOAM is pretty convincing, too)
2001
ooo ooo bathtub gin, page side = rage side
The two yahoo's in the styrofoam cowboy hats says it all.
The baton has been passed to the next generation and I gladly hand it off, if the best you've got to show is some fucking cookie cutter paid for piece of shit STYROFOAM (good god) cowboy hats, then you guys take you PHISH AMERICAN IDOL lot to the next level(drinking games and beer pong ala country fans). yeah, the same ones they wore to homecoming fo sho brah!
again not a dready in sight.
i cant wait for the FOX THEATER ST. LOUIS!!!!
so what if theres not a dready in sight thats not the whole fucking scene u stero type piece of wookie shit. basically what u r saying is that people that dont have dreads arnt into the music. man grow up u fuking hippocryt. its u that ruins the scene. mango wedge encore tweezer reprise.
how could you want phish to play dead tunes
and for the second review:
Halley's comet has 2 L's
and it is Jon Fishman, not John
The crowd looks great, and lets just say that tonight instead of playing While My GUitar Gently Weeps they threw down Help on the Way... who would complain? but this weekend has been ridiculously amzazing and better than anything heard outta the scene in years. ALL HAIL PHISH and I only criticize them on here to ruffle peoples feathers
good lord, what a blast!
don't be bitter that you didn't get to go futhepharmer...
there was plenty of dreddies there. chill out.
the only thing that wierded me out was the bible thumpers, that's awesome jambase got a picture of them! "phish is the music of the devil!" "you're dancing with satan!"
i couldn't help but laugh my ass off at those guys!
EPIC....On Point.....Just got home............Oh and futhepharmer nice to see books still being judged by there cover too bad some people are so obsessed with appearance rather than substance. See you all this summer!
PHISH SUCKS....... just kidding, dont kill me, cant wait for alpine valley
futhefarmer, just because you don't have dreadlocks and a pocket with an ounce of deamsters in it doesn't mean you like american idol and play beer pong in the lots. go fk yourself and maybe take a shower after
some of these dreadies r soo confused they dont know who is playing. just 4 ur information i dont think phish plays or caters 2 dreadies. they play 4 there FANS no matter what ur style is andi'm sure every1 here is a hard core phan. when are some of u wookies going too understand its not about the drugs. the only reason dreadies r pissed that thaey could'nt get into the parking lot without a tickett is becsuse thet r unable 2 make money off the band &thescene get ajob and support ur tour.
futhefarmer, you are a fucking douchebag
Say what you will about the lot scene, but leave beer pong out of this. Berr pong has done nothing to hurt anyone.
futhepharmer drank his HaterAde today
Great music just isn't the same without dirty "dreadies" making the place smell like ass, right fu?
futhepharmer get off your high horse! "not a dready in sight" has to be the biggest bitch statement i've ever heard. i didn't know there were fashion requirements to listen to phish....ass hole
alright, my bad for judging from a couple of photo's.
I don't want to take away from anyone's fun, I think the shows sound great.
seriously though. I think jambase mixed it up and got the picture of those two dingoballs in the styrofoam cowboy hat's from a Travis Tritt show instead.
Also, for anyones information, Phish would have been NOTHING without the wooks who followed them throughout the first ten years of their existence. I repeat, and you're an idiot if you think otherwise, Phish would never have become famous without the faithful, dreadie sporting, patchy-wearing, shower avoiding (not on purpose), COLORFUL hippies that cared enough to go on tour and sell handmade items and other goodies so that they could buy the tickets to make Phish the money to keep touring and building word of mouth about a scene that was going on.
Yes, I'm not going to any shows on this tour by choice (yes I know that makes many of you happy). Too many of the new generation of jam phans are only passionate about the music, but NOT passionate about what used to be our culture of kindness and community (throw your cigarette butts on the ground anyone?).
Also, it's sad that Phish has turned their back on the true phans that made them what they are today. I'm sure the new Nazi Lot Policies will continue for the summer tour. What fun.
Thanks for the free shows though. they sound great.
I here what your saying futherphamer. But the times have changed, this isn't the nineties anymore, the culture just isn't there anymore. I would love it to be but that has to happen with the masses and it just isn't there. And if it makes you any happier i just gave myself dreadlocks last week, and i am one of those kind colorful hippies. Great shows keep it goin strong, and maybe a few more dates please.
Ahhhh, what a night! It was wonderful to feel the boys melting my brain again. All the jams felt so epic tonight, more than usual. There must have been 3 or 4 times I said to myself "this has to be the set closer", but no, they just kept on ripping it. Was pleasantly surprised to find a cool shakedown pre-show, but there was nothing afterwards which was a bummer. Hope night 3 was great for everyone, I had to return to family duties...but damn, thanks for a great weekend Phish!
i am happy
Another point for futhepharmer - Did you ever consider that people grow, change, mature, maybe even look differently now than they did 10 plus years ago? I for one, as well a many of my friends, have had long hair, dreads, nothing but tye-dye shirts, etc. What happened to me is that I got married, have a stable job, and dont feel the need to have a certain "look" to fit into a scene. Sure, I still get home every day, hit the bong, put on some good tunes, play guitar, scratch the dogs butt. Point is, I may look different than I did in 92, but I have the same passions and habits. Some of the most trippy, interesting, and unique people I have met look like total nerds! Just my 2 cents, glad you are still positive about the shows.
the scene changed post hiatus and it aint never going back... we all have to get over that and just go for the same reason we started, the music.
thanks Soxfan, I was hoping to hear from someone else who had wittnessed the absence of culture. I was just expressing my opinion. I don't hate Phish or their fans as I am indeed still a Phish Phan myself. I've already resolved myself to just enjoying the music anymore and passing the baton as far as going to shows goes (plus, with the economy in the tank, I just don't have the bread anymore).Peace, and I hope everbody who went had a great time.
oh yeah, anybody have more information on the 194 people arrested over the 3 day run? Just curious, I heard there were an extra 200 officers working and that Phish had to foot the bill.
Phish hired the "security" and they confiscated $1.2 million in drugs and $68,000 in cash. don't know what to think about that
ok futhepharmer let me just understand what u r tring to tell us. its because of the dreadies that phish gained its popularity. huh thats a bunch of bull shit. i have a video from 92 connecticut and theres not 1 dready in sight that didnt even start happening untill at least 94-95. further more there r phish phans in every state even new mexico. phish does'nt need a group of dreadies 2 follow them around and sell out shows. if nobody ever followed them from show to show they would be just as big as they r now because of need i repeat myself 18000 ITS THE MUSIC. so stop tring 2 sale everybody that shit about how dreadies made the scene the music made the scene. stop stero typing shit uare once again saying that dreadies r the most die hard phish phans i've never had dreads and have seen well over 80 shows saw them 4 the first time in 96 at ucla.and by the way most of u dready venders r saling goods not 2 get into the show because at the same time ur looking 4 a free ticket get a job and fund ur own tour. it was 3 solid nights of music see u at alpine valley. much love phish
hey bud u sound like some1 who would rather tripp his face off in the parking lot than b in the show. its about the music and it will always be about the music part of the reason all of those dreadies toured so much living from show to show is because they have no job and no home so dont feed me this crap about faithful dreadies made phish popular. c how happy all those phans where they probly gave a shit less about a shakedown street there all there 4 the music not the scene. so teel ur parking lot stories to some1 else.
dude the dreadies and wooks were everywhere. And just beause the wooks followed doesnt mea they held the scene together. I was talkign to one guy who looked like he stepped out of a business office and sunday was his 134 show. Alot of those orginal wooks grew up got jobs, shaved the dredz etc..doesnt mean they arent there..they jsut moved on for a little while and dicovered showers and deodorant. But the lot scene was very pleasant in my opinion. nothing out of control, barely any frat bros,
Hell the msot annoying person in the lot was the preacher saying god wants us to burn in hell for listening to phish smoking etc.
Phish had NO radio airplay. none. zip. zero.
your gonna tell me a band that has no radio airplay is gonna get that huge without the touring faithful? take off your rose colored glasses man!
And I mean (old school)tour kids in general, not dreadies.
Dig that Camel Walk intro to Back on the Train.
I really miss the old scene, but it's not the young kids faults that they were born late. I am going to see Phish this summer for the music, not the lot scene. Great shows, great reviews can't wait for Alpine!
pharmer...what is it with you? why the poo poo all the time? I was there during what you call "old school"...it was good. It's still good. They opened with Fluffhead for Christsake. Be nice.
ok pharmer i am an old school kid was there in the first 12 years of the bands exsintence. about no radio time thers the internet bro so u really didnt need word of mouth too hear abbout them(phish). my uncle has a flyer that has phish playing a after show when he saw the dead play in boston.
pharmer, you really should really just revoke all of your comments, because you are incredibly wrong. Since when did people with dreads or people on tour that sold shit in the lot make Phish who they are today?? Phish became popular because of the internet/taping/fan base being a bunch of nerds. By nerds, I mean overwhelmingly in-to-the-music. I am one of them. I have been watching Phish for the last 17 years and I still am nerdy about them. I also looked different back then, since that obviously matters to you. It is not how you look it is how you act and how you feel about the music. Phish would be better off without an out of control parking lot anyway. By the way, there were still plenty of people with dreadlocks in all three of the shows....and you know what we ALL had PHUN!!!
Love the pic of that guy and the bible...
fu, im sure there were plenty of head stash dreadies there so chill
@ nobodysjam
"Dig that Camel Walk intro to Back on the Train."
I hear you, but that's seriously just how the *good* GBotT's start!
@ futhepharmer
it's sad that the "scene" is no longer so brimmingly positive, but, given the current state of affairs, focusing on the music and generally being kind yourself seems to be the way to go. I've always thought the scene was secondary - maybe "corollary" is a better word -- that the music is so unspeakably special that the community that grew around it was bound to be so blazingly positive? I still feel that shockingly close connection with other true phans at shows when it's clear we're both there for the music, and THAT is where I find the community that seems so elusive now.
Excuse my elaborations
long live teh Phish!
It wasn't until Jerry died that the dreadies came on "over" to Phish. And I would say that up till then Phish was a college band, lots of college kids @ the shows. Shoot, know yer stuff, futhepharmer.
