I'm guessing reba and maze tonight
Now i am really pissed i wasent there. Great job jambase. Hopefully i will see them at alpine. but to wrap it up WOW!
My wife thinks it's weird but I can't believe this is not front page news for the rest of the country.
take me back to the mothership...the mothership
I SAW IT AGAIN.!
THE LIGHTS ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD
Always nice to see Super D's smiling face. Great review. Great Pics. So wish I could have been there. See ya in Long Island.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Runaway Jim!!
before last night i wasn't a huge phish fan but the idea of a classic jam band reforming sounded quite intriguing so i kept up with the show last night, checking setlist, searching youtube for video etc. but now listening to the show for the first time i'm a believer. they really sound like a new band. i really hope the boys can stay clean and keep up the good work. congrats gentlemen!
nice red fluff in the trees! Dog Log To-Night!!!
back on those day when my life was a haze!
Thanks for the great coverage so far. Is that the REAL super d?
Man that tweeter jam is amazing. The world is a better place with Phish on the scene.
Woo Hoo!!!
The One and Only Super D ....
SUZY WAS TOP NOTCH!
Kinda weird... the show was 4 hrs and 20 mins and the mp3s were 420mbs? howd they get that to work out so nicely/
It's magic baby
not a dready in sight in those photos. Looks kinda like the same crowd that would go to a Kanye show. College kids, college kids, college kids. The lot musta looked like a USC football game lot, huh?
Gotta admit, did enjoy listening to the show for free.
Looks like they praticed...a lot. Good.
This article has been up for 6 hours and there are only 19 comments, either there are only 12 of us not in Hampton or everyone on Jambase is just speechless.
phish tore it up last night i couldn't be happier to have this mp3. i just hope deer creek and alpine valley will be as amazing as this show was. on a little side note that has to be one of the best suzys i have ever heard...page did some serious work.
Check out the douchebag in the jamcruise jersey
After listening to the mp3s, I would have to say I'm pretty speechless. I'm having an eargasm.
1 0r 2 kinda hot chicks in the front row. ya know trey was just a little disapointed.
it looks like alot of the wrong heads got tix
my jaw hurts from smiling so much...
Very nice. Can't wait for Deer Creek and Alpine. I agree that the world is a better place with Phish on tour.
For those of you commenting about the lack of 'heads' or there being wrong heads in the crowd, are you serious? Do you really need to put yourself on a pedestal that badly? Kanye West college kids...give me a break. I guess in a perfect world, the only people allowed to go to Phish shows are the ones that some of you deem worthy. Way to be concerned with the biggest non-issue of 2009.
I hope EVERYONE at these shows has an unbelievable time.
wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like an over 30 crowd... and a good crowd
HOLY SHIT
This show was amazing...what a treat to be able to witness this. They are back with a passion...OH YEAH!
I'm guessing the guy with the jamcruise jersey has hella $$$$$$$$$$$$
this was pretty powerful, hats off, getting constant text updates from the pham.
" like an old flame that you knew was meant to be in your life, the one you were destined to end up with 'til death do you part."
can't help myself but smirk with every 4th pic or so, and it's a smirk that just feels reassuring to know that this is really it. it took them a long time but the boys are really and fully back on the train. and that they're doing it right this time around. it brings about a giddyness and heightened anticipation difficult (if not impossible) to match anywhere else. i mean JUST LOOK AT THAT SETLIST!!!! SERIOUSLY. ok, gotta get back to checking tonight's. catch y'all at Jones/Camden.
It was about an hour before the final show at Coventry. I was standing way in the back, at the top of the hill by where the art installation was- you remember- the twisted metal things and weird piles of rocks. Anyway, I was taking pictures up there, and Mike comes driving by on a golf cart. He stops and a group of about 20 people gather around and start talking to him and taking pictures and stuff. There were a bunch of kinda stupid questions, but there was one thing in particular that has always stuck out in my mind. Someone asked, “Are you guys gonna play Fluffhead tonight?” And Mike laughed. He said, “If we were going to play Fluffhead I’d have to be backstage right now with the rest of the guys re-learning how to play it.” Or words to that effect.
I remember thinking, “No wonder they’re breaking up. They’ve lost sight of their music as a band so badly they don’t know how to play Fluffhead anymore! I understand they have a huge repertoire- but its Fluffhead.
I didn’t ask Mike any questions that day, I just thought it was cool to be there, to be so close to one of the men who’d brought so much joy to my life- at a time that I was sure would be quite meaningful in his.
But when he was driving away, I remember thinking how much I would miss the Phish- but that it was probably best they go away- that something was clearly broken- and at the time- I didn’t know if it would ever be fixed again.
And then, last night, I read they opened with Fluffhead, and a tear came to my eye. I wanted them to be back. If Phish was going to play again, I wanted it to be PHISH- not some guys trying to replenish the money that got sucked out of their bank accounts by the financial downturn. And even though I couldn’t be there- I listened to every note of that show this morning- and watched the setlist be released like a junkie last night- and they didn’t just play Fluffhead- they tore through it. They played it well and with heart and I’m just so happy they’re back.
I’d like to think that somewhere, in the back of his head, Mike remembers that incident at Coventry, that he thought to himself as he was driving away. “If this thing ever comes together again- if we’re ever a band again- we’re gonna open with goddamn Fluffhead- and we’re going to own it.”
Well you did Mike my man, you did. Welcome back!
Hey, why were they cracking up so much during Bouncing Round the Room last night? They all sound like they're laughing their butts off. Give us he visual reference, for those not lucky enough to be there. Thanks
definatly noticed page more(thanks to the free download). I think he should take over vocals completely for water in the sky. I'm so happy. I wish I was there but I'm still so happy. lights in the middle of the room, over the fans are as good as they get. I know I was supposed to be there.
folks it was not a tight perfect night, I hope they spend some more time getting ready for summer 09' What have they been doing since they announced they were coming back? Practicing in different states. Just saying.
While I'm as excited as anyone to have Phish back, and while I eagerly look forward to Bonnaroo and Alpine this summer, was I the only one with my ears open when listening to these downloads? Trey sounds like Coventry, unable to thread the needle, and at many moments they sounded like they couldn't keep it together, culminating in a false start YEM and a piss poor Hood. While I am confident that the band will pull things together on stage, and begin putting together some good ideas more fluidly, I am certainly glad that I didn't spend the $$ on Hampton tix. It also sounds like the lot sucked based on what I've read about vendors getting confiscated/ticketed.
Marqueemag, They were cracking up because they dropped those big balls onto the crowd. They were huge about 20 feet in diameter. One of the the balls made it's way onto the stage and ended up on top of page for a who was trying not to get engulfed by it. It finally popped and they were all cracking up about it.
AMAZING! While reading that article it brought a tear to my eye. I wish that I could have been there but soon enought my time will come...ALPINE IN 103 DAYS! Thanks JamBase for letting us download these shows and for all the great coverage...well done:)
Damn,...look at that smile on Trey's face.
Looking good Red.
I can't wait till this summer...
thank you phish.
If you dont get a tear in your eye during the divided sky you're insane. This shit is absolutely nuts.
piedmonte i see your point, it seems like some songs they really really practiced and nailed, particularly the old favs, and some of the newer stuff jsut didn't hit as good. but the mp3's are great quality and as a whole i am pleasantly surprised at how they are playing. most of it is just amazing...
not all that tight. people caught up in the emotion, not the reality. still one more night, though. maybe they'll bring it for real.
^^I've listened to Fri. & Sat. and they both sound tighter than Phish has sounded in about a decade. Free mp3s kick ass.
Night 2 sounds pretty good, but do you really believe that Friday night was tighter than Phish from the 90's? Even the late 90's? C'mon.
No I meant like a decade ago as in 1999.
wow
Great work Dave and Brian!!!! Sick!
anyone who thinks last nights 2nd set wasnt better than P H is just plain ignorant.
So I just found out that the douchebag in the jamcruise jersey is 01Roggae........nice threads dude.
To those of you who have anything negative to say about Friday's show, it would be obvious that you were not there. I've seen the band since '91 and began getting dissappointed around 98-99, only to watch it get worse after the hiatus. What I saw Friday night compared to what I was seeing in 93-95. The show was INCREDIBLE, TOP TEN OUT OF MY 100+ SHOWS!!!! During the 1st set I had the same feeling I had at Halloween 94 when they played until almost 3 in the morning, I wasn't sure if they were gonna break, or just keep playing. Great time everywhere. As for the lot, and the phans, that's right there were actually showered pholks, and very few, if any lot rats. THAT IS NOT A BAD THING!!!! The lot had the feel of the old days, when things were cool, not later when you weren't sure if your car would get broken into! The band was ON, if they continue to play like what I saw Friday, you'll be psyched whent the circus comes to town!!!!
I want to cry just reading this!! Goosebumps!! So awesome, can't wait to see them in June! Welcome back boys :)
This is like being back with that one girl you loved and adored. And having that love and adoration reciprocated was the most fufilling, pure and blissful feeling ever realized.
Then something went wrong; an intangible that I could not pinpoint or correct. I tried to show that I was still committed and forgive the past and move on. How could you want to end this I asked. Do you know what I went through to get to Coventry?!?!? I held out hope for a reconcilliation even after Mike came on the radio and said to go home. Mike-that wasn't going to happen. I made my way in eventually and parked and promptly passed out from sheer exhaustion. All this to see you all one last time.
I held out hope for us until Page solidified during Velvet Sea that it was, indeed, over...
Trey, at that moment I hated you. I'm sorry.
But, as with all great loves, I took you back with a full heart and open arms. I missed you; let's never fight again, O.K.? I feel the feeling I forgot...
"So I just found out that the douchebag in the jamcruise jersey is 01Roggae........nice threads dude."
So I just realized that fordaj is the biggest pussy online, in the world, at this moment. What makes a shirt turn a person into a douchbag? All you kids that judge a book by its cover need to grow up and wake up! No dreads in the pics, oh boo-hoo, of course they are in the bathroom stall licking the molly off the toilets!
Rift sounded amazing!!! loooveeee itttt!!!
The YEM start, stop and restart was intentionally done to mock the last return at the mothership, when they really had to do so...
Bouncing humor= Page in horror about to have keyboard rig and whole self engulfed by 20 ft. mammoth white balloon. Trey comes to the rescue with neckstock of 'Doc to pop said balloon, Page then covered in balloon debris, much laughter from both fans and band ensues. (Balls where teathered, but I guess this was the one that got away.)
Looks as good as it sounded. I am loving the free mp3's. I don't think the YEM re-start was an actual flub by the band. It was a joke. They had to restart YEM at Hampton post hiatus# 1. It may have even been the last song before the encore just like Fri. I think Trey puts a lot of emphasis on that song and he was nodding back to a time that they did have a REAL problem starting YEM and then played a sub par version at Hampton. This version was good if not geat because of the extra funky Gordon solo at the end. So good to have these guys palying together and sounding like this, Page was shredding the keys Fri. SEE YOU AT ALPINE!!!
The lack of dreds has to do with the free wookie shaving we put on after coventry. Must have shaved 25,000 wooks in the street seperating the venue from the camp area the following day...gave them all resumes, and a map of the world. Glad to see they made it back. I'm guessing it will be June before we spot one in full plummage. It's like spotting an ostriage in the wild...fascinating creatures.
I have to say that the reason for no Dreds is that who the fuck is standing in the front row with dredlocks, HELLO, the party is always in the middle and the back, the front is for the losers who stand there all day just catch a bit of sweat from the band. The show looks amazing and sounds great too, I can't wait to see them at the Roo, hopefully their stage lights will be this sick...
