Montana Slim String Band: Album/Tour

Montana Slim String Band
Montana Slim String Band is set to release their debut album, Slim Pickins, with a blowout release party at the Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco (see the JamBase review of this album here). The emerging four-piece newgrass band will then embark on an eight-day run of shows throughout California as well as stops in Eugene, Portland and Seattle. The release party at the Cafe Du Nord will be featuring special guests, Chris Haugen's Seahorse Rodeo. Haugen is one of the most in demand guitarists in the country, having recorded songs for the Into the Wild soundtrack as well as co founding Jambay with Everyone Orchestra conductor, Matt Butler.

Since forming in San Francisco, CA, in 2006, Montana Slim String Band has quickly gained the attention of its fans by driving home a delightful blend of traditional bluegrass and a youthful interpretation that comes across as honest, playful and intoxicating. The four-piece has found its knack with the current line up of Sean Duerr on guitar, Jesse Dunn on bass, Brent McClain on mandolin and Turi Hoiseth on violin. The band recorded their first EP with producer Tim Bluhm of The Mother Hips in January of 2007, and quickly found they had enough original material for a full length studio album. After a tour across the country, a featured spot at least year's Las Tortugas festival and ever growing fanbase at their shows, Slim Pickins, the band's first full length studio effort, is set to be released March 20.

Slim Pickins marks the band's ever present growth and the coming months will find the band making stops at the Bobolink music festival, a featured headlining set at the Evergreen Lodge as part of a Strawberry Music Festival after party, an opening slot for The Devil Makes Three at the Mystic Theatre and a national tour come fall.

These guys are great and will only get better in time because they have a solid heartfelt foundation with great intention and awesome personality. The playing is connective and embracing and truly fun! I just love them....check out Bobolink festival gonna be a goodin! Slim reminds me of old Butter but more gritty and down to earth. I love both bands!

Sure wish we could attend Cafe du Nord on Friday......guess we'll have to wait until the National Fall tour to catch this great band on their East Coast swing!!!! But we'll be sure to buy their CD!!! We heard them last year live for the first time in San Fran and absolutely loved them!!!! Talented...each and every one of them. Love, love, love them! Remember the name, Montana Slim String Band.

I grew up with the lanky and Slim bassist, Jesse Dunn, and met some of the band while I was visiting S.F. a couple weeks ago and I say that Montana Slim is blowin' it up out there in Westie. I'm so stoked to hear these guys come play in backyard tradition West Bolton, VT (hint, hint) and bring it down with the locals. Old Times, Great Times. New Times, Montana Slim. Make the grass blue!!!!

Note to SeanD,

Dude, do you think Montana Slim will ever swing as high and as East as Orono? I definitely can hook you up with a local pub for a show or two (maybe a gig in Portland and one in Orono). Bar Harbor you say?

You can crash at our house. We'll find space for the whole just have to do the driving.
