Bonnaroo has announced the dates for the 2009 headliners. Phish will be performing on the Friday and Sunday of the festival weekend. The Friday show will be a special late night performance and the Sunday show will close out the weekend.
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band will be performing on Saturday. Look for more details coming soon!
Set to take place June 11-14 at The Farm in Manchester, TN, Bonnaroo 2009 will feature the following artists:
GREAT, now I can't leave sunday.
haha, I was thinking the same thing lol. So who's gonna headline friday tho? I had figured it would be the beasties but they are already on the line up and they neglected to say they will headline fri, I'm almost inclined to believe they have some super addition up their sleeve.
IT'S THE DEAD ZOMG
It's crazy to see how far down the bill bands like Mule, Galactic, Moe and The Decembrists fall. If I had the time and money I'd definitely be there. I'm sure those of you that are will have an absolute blast.
I was thinking the same thing. My first impression wss that Phish would be headlining 2 nights. After I heard this news I figured that NIN would be the Friday headliner. Now Lakai has me thinking that there is still a headliner to be announced. Who could it be? Any ideas?? I am so pumped.... can't wait to see you all at The Farm.
Where does My Morning jacket fall into all of this?
Im thinking NIN will get a Kanye West-like time slot something like 230-430am on a main stage saturday or perhaps thursday night late night...I gotta think itll be the dead on friday night, whiskey haynes is already gunna be there, although janes addiction is going on tour with NIN so they may still be added
and i was hoping bruce would be sunday night so i could get outta there sunday evening, but alas, the boys will be closing it out, cant really complain
DOWN is the friday night headliner.
hahah that sucks
friday will be cool, but closing sunday sucks for all the phans that get tired by then and wanna leave
first roo with MMJ in a while. weak......
THE DEAD, NEIL YOUNG OR ALLMAN BRO'S is my guess
and that does indeed suck that i have to stay till monday now.
No doubt some major jam sessions/collaborations on Saturday? Trey compliments everyone I've ever seen him jam with. None more so than Phish. Ye Haw.
Jim Pollock Among Artists To Appear at Hampton Poster Convention
Phish-inspired artwork will be the focus of the third annual Best Poster Convention, which will take place at the Best Western Coliseum Inn & Suites in Hampton, VA on Saturday March 7. Longtime Phish poster artist Jim Pollock will attend and sign his work, along with Ryan Kerrigan, Justin Helton AJ Masthay and others. Pete Mason, creator of the Phan Art book also will participate, joined by many of the contributors to that project. BPC III: Phamily Reunion will take place from 11AM-3PM, with advance tickets required and full details available online.
for all the people who are bitching about staying for sunday night maybe you should just stay home. I mean jesus if cant handle four days of one of the best parties on the planet maybe a golf retreat would be a better idea.
should i go? should i not go? i dont know what to do.
This is a pretty weak festival line-up for my liking. Mule, Galactic, Toubab, Potter, Byrne, moe. and McCoury, yes, but I just can not justfy paying for only about six bands that I like (Phish not being one). I hope everyone that goes has a good time!
oh and THe Mars Volta should definitely be the friday headliner
hey leister, some of us dont have trust funds and actually have JOBS dick wipe. I was hoping the boss would play sunday as well, phuck.
I must be one of the few who are super pumped about this announcement. Can't think of a better way to end a great festival weekend with phish closing it down. I would have been pissed if the boss would have been the closer. F the boss. Here's to hoping the mars volta plays late night saturday so I can skip the boss and be up front.
nitty gritty is right leistr, its not exactly the best economy to be taking a week off (going to knoxville before roo), besides i dont give a rats ass about seeing bruce springsteen, jesus maybe if i didnt have a job i could become a 5 star jambaser too
Smart move on the Roo planning side b/c all the Phans will certainly have to stay now, even if they're still bitching. LOL! I'm glad they did it this way!
But it does beg the question: Who else will they name? I hope ABB, Dead or Neil Young - I'd probably crap my pants for Neil, truly. Wow! One can only hope!
Since NIN is obviously not the Friday headliner, I couldn't be happier! I was pissed when they took up a whole 3 hours for Metallica. I wasn't surprised, but not happy, simply b/c most folks are there to see other groovier bands primarily, bands they like more than the NIN types.
Bring on Neil!
What is all this "awww now I have to stay till Monday" stuff? Why worry about that kind of thing when you are at 4 days of heaven that you wait in anticipation for 361 days, paying up the ass for tickets, and god knows how much on travel expenses, booze, gas, miscellaneous medical stuff....just to want to leave early? lolol!
uh, 5 stars means what you rated the article. there's this little area called a rating system just above where you click add comment. i guess you were working to hard to notice.
Oh yea, and the best part is that this means Phish will be there ALL weekend and not dip out early. Wonder how the guest appearances will pan out. Maybe they'll give David Byrne the big Friday spot last minute? You think? If not, that 5 p.m. slot worked fine before.
Like it or not, I have heard many (somewhat reliable) by no means OFFICIAL sources, that they are attempting to get the Red Hot Chili Peppers to play the festival. My first reaction was, what time slot would they play?...This kind of makes me think it could be possible and they could fill that friday night alternative spot that they've been having the last few years....
Yes, I was thinking David Byrne and Wilco will both have Pre-Headliner spots...Which will both be incredible while we get good seats for bruce..... Just Kidding about the Bruce part haha....
doubt it will be RHCP, prob gonna be Jay-Z
ADD LES, and Have an OYSTERHEAD SATURDAY NIGHT SET!
Why all the hate toward Bruce Springsteen? He lives and breathes for his art and respects it. If you don't like him fine, but you don't have to bash him every chance. I am a huge Phish Phan, but I love springsteen as well. This Bonnaroo is going to be the best ever and I was at the first three which were all stellar. I have not been back since 2004, but 2009 is looking good!
Ooohhhh!!! I'd love RHCP!!! Something new...something different...something worthy...I dig it!!!
man i would love for jay-z to show up
GREAT, now I can sleep Saturday night during Bruce to prepare for Saturday late night!!!!!!!!! SWWEEEETTTTT
Then have Trey and Les do some Oysterhead during the Superjam, with other artists coming and going. I mean crazier things have happened.
The one good thing Kanye West did bring to the festival is the thought of having more late nights on the main stage....at a reasonable time.
Also, add screens to the 2nd big stage and even some tents! WE KNOW YOU HAVE THE MONEY BONNAROO!
From a good source...... Elvis isn't dead. He'll headline Friday for sure.
i am begining to reconsider my tennesse expedition if i wait till sunday night for phish i cant get back to philly till at least monday night if not tuesday. thsi will be a tough call
Thanks for your itinerary mykdakyke ......did you think you were emailing your mom.
Has anyone heard of a big suited man they call David Byrne? That's your friday night headliner. This aint no party! This aint no disco!
Talking Heads reunion?
yeah yeah yeahs and tv on the radio listed above moe. and mule at a "jam" fest...more like "hipster fest"
^^^Never in a million years mojo. That dirty cunt of a bass player can stick her head up her tom-tom club lovin fat ass!
also, if not adding a headliner, why not make wilco the friday night headliner? i`d rather see them headline than NIN
Headliner unannounced--- can i get a vote for Faces?
nevertheless of whos going to headline when where and how it always seems like youre going to leave the roo missing something you wished you couldve seen but I dont care personally. i like knowing where ever i turn there is going to be some good tunes going down. cant wait to see those of you going at the farm. good times indeed!
Yes, I also hear Jay-Z is a strong possibility. I'm definitely a Jay-Z guy, but I'd still rather have the Chili Peppers.
I dont want to hear anymore of your guy's banter. The headlining show friday is David Byrne and thats final! Anymore arguing from the peanut gallery and Ill turn this computer right around! That'll end your precious Bonnaroo plans pretty damn quick. Seriously though, its David Byrne.
I think it's still highly probable to see Beasties headline Friday, and NIN late night Saturday. Anyone else think that?
Friday: David Byrne > Paul McCartney > Phish late night
Saturday: Wilco > Bruce > Snoop Dogg late night
Sunday: Beastie Boys > Phish
Count on it
Where would NIN fit into that schedule BG?
yea i know... that's the only problem with it. Maybe instead of Snoop Dogg I guess. That and the fact that the friday night headliner is still totally up in the air. Paul McCartney is wishful thinking.
Too many awesome acts, too little time
Fuck it how bout David Byrne headlines friday? I like that
know what, scratch that, I would explode with joy if moe was bumped on up past all those other artists and headlined friday. Maybe coheadline with DB
langerado + phish
This is gonna be the best year ever.
I say this as an 8 year vet. wow.
Im gonna need extra sunblock and choice headies.
choice headies indeed for this mrknowitall!
Why all the speculation about who bonnaroo is going to add for Friday night headliner spot? The headliners are already announced!
Friday night Main Stage will likely by Byrne, Beasties, NIN, Wilco. But, these aren't the standard heavy hitters. Who says they need to be a "headliner"?
So, i'm guessing that this year is going to be a different format altogether. One of the mentioned bands will play the Main Stage at 9pm, but the other stages/tents won't shut down during that time. How great would it be to have some evening shows in the tents aside from the late-nights?
Think about it - if Phish plays late-night "headliner" spot, then most of the tents and Which Stage likely won't have anything going on. So, to maximize the schedule, bonnaroo would/should have Friday night from 9pm to start of the Phish show at full performance capacity.
Why is the Boss taking rank over Phish at Bonnaroo? Oh yeah, because Bonnaroo sucks! Rothbury 09 is going to be the shit!
I don't know if this has been said yet, but at least there's a possibility of (a) member(s) of Phish for Superjam
Hey guys, did you not catch the NIN/Janes Addiction tour update...if you think about it, NIN won't be headlining, but I guarentee that Janes Addiction will be added to the bill. I mean if they are touring this summer and doing Sasquatch and I'm pretty sure they will also be headlining Lollapalooza, I know it's gotta be them. Especially since NIN is on the list below Beastie, I think Friday will be NIN then Janes Addiction closing after...which would be sweet...I would rather have it the other way around, but I'm not gonna care...
Oh yeah, whomever is picking on Bonnaroo about how mainstream it is and how Rothbury is supposedly better, well lets see who was the headliners last year for Rothbury: Dave Friggin Matthews, John Friggin Mayer, Widespread (Which was the only good headliner) and 311...Good God people, stop picking on this festival just cause you can't afford it. Phish two nights with NIN, Beastie, Byrne, Green, Badu, Volta, Moe.....I can go on and on...so stop dissing
Im kind of amazed that no one has mentioned --WIDESPRED PANIC-- Who do you think built this dream city?????? if it aint panic, thens its thedead or possibly Redhot even tho they are on a two year hitaus cuz one of them is going to school.... how bout some daft punk?
oh yeah, i wanna moe.latenite too....I NEED AT LEAST 4 HOURS!!!
maybe they should call this THE GRATEFUL CUSTY FEST . Snoozeville. slap slap
BROOKLYN-like it or not, Rothbury was the best festival since the first Bonnaroo. The festival grounds themselves were amazing, and the weather was perfect the entire time. To be honest, regardless of who the promoters billed as "headliners", all the acts from thursday thru sunday had great crowds, and delivered outstanding performances. THE LATE-NIGHT AT ROTHBURY DESTROYED THE LATE-NIGHT AT BONNAROO. bottom line, though, until you go to Rothbury, you have NO IDEA AT ALL how much better it is than Bonnaroo. ALSO-Don't count Phish out on the Bury this summer, rumor has it that more summer phish dates are coming, one of those being a July date in Michigan........buryburybury!!!!
Well, i like the phish spreadout indeed...Fuck i wish i was old enough in the mid to late 90s....oh well
ALLMAN BROTHERS!!!! You owe me, bonnaroo.
I will settle for the Dead.
OR BOTH! (its happened before...)
Have fun all.
daft punk, oysterhead, or primus, should get that friday spot, i mean claypool is at every other fest this year why not hit up the roo for like his 6th time
mmmh.. see you on tour (excluding taxaroo)
f' the haters. this lineup is gonna be sweet this year. last year sucked so I went to rothbury, but I can't resist the 09 bonnaroo lineup. I know Rothbury 09 is seriously gonna rival this though...can't wait to see that...still undecided.
Like I said, a month ago,The Dead will be Friday's headliner. Can't wait, gettin down there two nights early to catch Phish, anyone kknow how the Thomas Boling Arena is? I got two extras for that show.
Friday will be Byrne. I'll bet my ticket on it...
BJ02 - you said, "Friday night Main Stage will likely by Byrne, Beasties, NIN, Wilco."
I say, "Not a chance in hell for NIN, Wilco or Beasties. Byrne is the only possibility out of that."
Why? B/c if it was NIN or Wilco, they would've already said so, but they didn't b/c that would be stupid and people would be pissed! (Not that Wilco isn't worthy, but Roo always picks a bigger touring band.) It's not Beasties b/c they're going to get a crazy late night spot so they can collab w/ some other wicked DJs and twist our minds.
Maybe Byrne, and that would be super fine with me, but why wouldn't they already say it? B/c they still have another headliner to announce, i.e. the Dead, ABB, WSP, etc. I'll keep dreaming for McCartney or Neil myself!! Regardless, there's still another big touring band for that 9 p.m. main stage spot on Friday, for sho!
honestly, as more of a Phisher than a 'Rooer, I'm still a little peeved that Phish is playing the 'Roo, and, though I'd already spent enough on Phish tickets to decide not to go, it really seems like a bitch move to make Phish's two concerts on either end of the festival.
that being said, and in the spirit of nothing but honesty, I'll bet these shows're gonna kick ass (I'm just specifically talking about the Phish shows, mind you). Phish used to be all about the unique collaborations - and so, too, was Bonnaroo. aside from the mind-blowing majesty I'll anticipate hearing on tapes of Friday's latenight set, I'm really excited to see what guest spots and sit ins the members of Phish involve themselves with!
I miss the old festivals. 10 or 15 bands max over 3 days with each band playing 2 hour or more sets. Hog Farm Pignic, Mountain Aire just to name a couple. I must be getting old because camping in a tent for 4 days where the temp gets down to 85 degrees at night then standing in a crowd of 50,000 kids 150 rows back in 100 degree heat just is not a good time for me personally. Add in the dust, then the inevitable rain and mud and a bunch of drunk kids who think they invented music and it just gets worse. Then for good measure also add in the 4 hour wait in line in your car when you are a mile from the venue and camping a mile from the nearest stage. I'll save my money and see the 8 or 10 bands I want to see on this list in a small 2000 seat venue play their normal two or three hour sets from a reasonable distance combined for about the cost of a single Roo ticket. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for everyone having a great time and I hope you all do and I hope the weather is great and the waits short and you are all in the front row.......but for me this is getting too out of control and too big. When I tell someone I saw a band live I want to be able to actually see them and not watch them on a monitor from 250 yards away. But if thats your thing thats cool with me. Everybody should get a chance to experience music how they want to and this is just one of the many ways to do it. So have fun and remember to wear plenty of sunblock.
maybe trey and mike will play super jam with david byrne? that would be TITS!!!
^^ Thanks, Buzzy McKillington.
NIN is playing on saturday according to their website
david byrne-->phish sunday with phish backing byrne at the end of his set..could happen
haha i love how they put phish sunday night so all the phans wont leave and bonnaroo can try to take in more money.... this being said it kinda sucks I wont be there for friday night, that shits gonna be ill
Great idea! Except lets have Byrne on Friday night. That way we'll get two sets from Byrne and we wont have to leave the main stage for the boys late night. Either way we can all agree on skipping the Boss to rest up for late night Volta on saturday. Saw late night Volta the last time they played Roo. Absolutely sick! In my opinion there is no other spot for Volta and you cant have a legend like David Byrne in the middle of the day. Did anyone go to the 06 Bonnaroo? I thought Beck was going to be the underdog show of the weekend. But they put him on at like 3:00 in the afternoon. I would have rather gone and seen Hellen Keller attempt to play the harp.
This fest is weak. there are more
PUFNSTUF1 - yep, according to your profile, you're just old. That's okay though b/c it sounds like you've done a lot of cool shit! We'll drink one for ya!
Why is everyone dogging on the boss? hes gonna be sick wit it
Im not doggin the boss. Im just saying that WHEN I get stuck at the furthest campsite on the farm its going to be hard to justify going to the boss. I would be risking my energy for the late night shows. A 45 minute non-stop walk from your camp to Centeroo sucks dick.
Check this out. Kinda funny eventhough I am a fan of a couple of the bands mentioned.
David Byrne anyday of the festival, as long as he comes out with Phish for a sick crosseyed and painless
It's going to be Beastie Boys headlining with Phish on Friday night. The Boss on Saturday with NIN getting the late night. David Byrne will get the spot right before Phish on Sunday and hopefully some mingling between the two will occur.
My question is what's going to happen with the SuperJam? It's going to be heavy in Phish members, no doubt, but it'll probably be opposite NIN. That will be the toughest pick for me over the weekend for sho'
canigeta AMEN! on the crosseyed and painless
Friday 9 p.m. : MY MORNING JACKET!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you imagine Jacket into late night Phish? Bonkerssssssssss
On the subject of the Boss, hes a solid act, but hes a solid act i wanna check out with my dad at an arena, not before dropping for a saturday night bonanaza!
Ghost of tom joad, philladelphia? pretty amazing tracks both of em.
Wowsah! This is gonna be some good times. Make the Friday headliner Panic. They DID make that festival. Damn, I miss Mikey! Anywho, Panic, The Dead, or David Byrne. Don't matt-ah. Anybody catch Byrne's set the last time he was there? It was the BALLS!!!!
Commercialized consumerism masked behind big musical names? Who are they trying to kid? Bonnarroo is the fucking antithesis of what a real festival is about. (This hallucination is proudly brought to you by MTV.)
just like sasquatch they'll play with Nine Inch Nails as part of their huge tour this summer. and it would fit pretty naturally, perry ferell is a staple at the festivals and it would look sweet on the next round of additions
Wait a second. Maybe I'm a little late but, every Phish fan I know and the ones on this site said they would never play Bonnaroo. No way in hell they'll play the roo. They'll play their own festival and then kill themselves before they play the roo. I'm confused.
no dead, no UM, no sts9, no thievery corp, no garaj mahal, no lotus, no pgroove, and bruce springsteen sucks.
(This hallucination is proudly brought to you by MTV.)
O.K. Capaldius, I for one was wrong on that one. I wish they weren't,but Im going anyway!!! Phish, Beasties, Byrne are three of my all time favorites.
CAPALDIUS-The reason Phish is playing fests this summer is because no insurance company will cover them if they attempt to put on a "Phish fest". IT and Conventry were total disasters money wise, and Phish is seen as a big liability (phans leaving thier cars on the side of the road and such are contributing reasons for this, meaning, Phish phans literally shut down a few highways during both fests). Anyhow, besides Bonnaroo, I heard that they are also going to play Rothbury, Outside Lands, and All points west this summer. More proof of this in Hampton as the Phish kick-off. They couldn't get insured on thier own fest, so they just decided to play 3 nights in a row, so no camping or anything like that was involved. So I guess, you can blaim the insurance companys for this one.
weekapaug groove and Y.E.M during the late night... im calling it now
Yo nittygritty i dont have a trust fund either ive got about 100k in tuition debt nut you gotta get your priorities straight.
just to piss everyone off I'm going to get VIP tickets AND an RV pass and laugh at you while I drink a $8 wine and eat a veggie plate from the buffet. retail value? priceless..
Do yourself a favor.....punch a raver!
Just kidding, go see King Sunny Ade!!
So, NIN/JA just announced their tourdates, and they're playing a show Friday night. Guess that means JA isn't headlining Bonnaroo that night. There goes that theory.
To the organizers of Bonnaroo > WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO ANNOUNCE THE SCHEDULE FOR THIS YEARS FESTIVAL?????????? Jeez Louise, it's almost May already.
