It's crazy to see how far down the bill bands like Mule, Galactic, Moe and The Decembrists fall. If I had the time and money I'd definitely be there. I'm sure those of you that are will have an absolute blast.

I was thinking the same thing. My first impression wss that Phish would be headlining 2 nights. After I heard this news I figured that NIN would be the Friday headliner. Now Lakai has me thinking that there is still a headliner to be announced. Who could it be? Any ideas?? I am so pumped.... can't wait to see you all at The Farm.

Im thinking NIN will get a Kanye West-like time slot something like 230-430am on a main stage saturday or perhaps thursday night late night...I gotta think itll be the dead on friday night, whiskey haynes is already gunna be there, although janes addiction is going on tour with NIN so they may still be added

I must be one of the few who are super pumped about this announcement. Can't think of a better way to end a great festival weekend with phish closing it down. I would have been pissed if the boss would have been the closer. F the boss. Here's to hoping the mars volta plays late night saturday so I can skip the boss and be up front.

Smart move on the Roo planning side b/c all the Phans will certainly have to stay now, even if they're still bitching. LOL! I'm glad they did it this way!

But it does beg the question: Who else will they name? I hope ABB, Dead or Neil Young - I'd probably crap my pants for Neil, truly. Wow! One can only hope!

Since NIN is obviously not the Friday headliner, I couldn't be happier! I was pissed when they took up a whole 3 hours for Metallica. I wasn't surprised, but not happy, simply b/c most folks are there to see other groovier bands primarily, bands they like more than the NIN types.

Bring on Neil!

Oh yea, and the best part is that this means Phish will be there ALL weekend and not dip out early. Wonder how the guest appearances will pan out. Maybe they'll give David Byrne the big Friday spot last minute? You think? If not, that 5 p.m. slot worked fine before.

Like it or not, I have heard many (somewhat reliable) by no means OFFICIAL sources, that they are attempting to get the Red Hot Chili Peppers to play the festival. My first reaction was, what time slot would they play?...This kind of makes me think it could be possible and they could fill that friday night alternative spot that they've been having the last few years....

I am a huge Phish Phan, but I love springsteen as well. This Bonnaroo is going to be the best ever and I was at the first three which were all stellar. Jambasers,

Why all the speculation about who bonnaroo is going to add for Friday night headliner spot? The headliners are already announced!

Friday night Main Stage will likely by Byrne, Beasties, NIN, Wilco. But, these aren't the standard heavy hitters. Who says they need to be a "headliner"?

So, i'm guessing that this year is going to be a different format altogether. One of the mentioned bands will play the Main Stage at 9pm, but the other stages/tents won't shut down during that time. How great would it be to have some evening shows in the tents aside from the late-nights?

Think about it - if Phish plays late-night "headliner" spot, then most of the tents and Which Stage likely won't have anything going on. So, to maximize the schedule, bonnaroo would/should have Friday night from 9pm to start of the Phish show at full performance capacity.

Hey guys, did you not catch the NIN/Janes Addiction tour update...if you think about it, NIN won't be headlining, but I guarentee that Janes Addiction will be added to the bill. I mean if they are touring this summer and doing Sasquatch and I'm pretty sure they will also be headlining Lollapalooza, I know it's gotta be them. Especially since NIN is on the list below Beastie, I think Friday will be NIN then Janes Addiction closing after...which would be sweet...I would rather have it the other way around, but I'm not gonna care...

BROOKLYN-like it or not, Rothbury was the best festival since the first Bonnaroo. The festival grounds themselves were amazing, and the weather was perfect the entire time. To be honest, regardless of who the promoters billed as "headliners", all the acts from thursday thru sunday had great crowds, and delivered outstanding performances. THE LATE-NIGHT AT ROTHBURY DESTROYED THE LATE-NIGHT AT BONNAROO. bottom line, though, until you go to Rothbury, you have NO IDEA AT ALL how much better it is than Bonnaroo. ALSO-Don't count Phish out on the Bury this summer, rumor has it that more summer phish dates are coming, one of those being a July date in Michigan........buryburybury!!!!

BJ02 - you said, "Friday night Main Stage will likely by Byrne, Beasties, NIN, Wilco."

I say, "Not a chance in hell for NIN, Wilco or Beasties. Byrne is the only possibility out of that."

Why? B/c if it was NIN or Wilco, they would've already said so, but they didn't b/c that would be stupid and people would be pissed! (Not that Wilco isn't worthy, but Roo always picks a bigger touring band.) It's not Beasties b/c they're going to get a crazy late night spot so they can collab w/ some other wicked DJs and twist our minds.

Maybe Byrne, and that would be super fine with me, but why wouldn't they already say it? B/c they still have another headliner to announce, i.e. the Dead, ABB, WSP, etc. I'll keep dreaming for McCartney or Neil myself!! Regardless, there's still another big touring band for that 9 p.m. main stage spot on Friday, for sho!

honestly, as more of a Phisher than a 'Rooer, I'm still a little peeved that Phish is playing the 'Roo, and, though I'd already spent enough on Phish tickets to decide not to go, it really seems like a bitch move to make Phish's two concerts on either end of the festival.

that being said, and in the spirit of nothing but honesty, I'll bet these shows're gonna kick ass (I'm just specifically talking about the Phish shows, mind you). Phish used to be all about the unique collaborations - and so, too, was Bonnaroo. aside from the mind-blowing majesty I'll anticipate hearing on tapes of Friday's latenight set, I'm really excited to see what guest spots and sit ins the members of Phish involve themselves with!

I miss the old festivals. 10 or 15 bands max over 3 days with each band playing 2 hour or more sets. Hog Farm Pignic, Mountain Aire just to name a couple. I must be getting old because camping in a tent for 4 days where the temp gets down to 85 degrees at night then standing in a crowd of 50,000 kids 150 rows back in 100 degree heat just is not a good time for me personally. Add in the dust, then the inevitable rain and mud and a bunch of drunk kids who think they invented music and it just gets worse. Then for good measure also add in the 4 hour wait in line in your car when you are a mile from the venue and camping a mile from the nearest stage. I'll save my money and see the 8 or 10 bands I want to see on this list in a small 2000 seat venue play their normal two or three hour sets from a reasonable distance combined for about the cost of a single Roo ticket. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for everyone having a great time and I hope you all do and I hope the weather is great and the waits short and you are all in the front row.......but for me this is getting too out of control and too big. When I tell someone I saw a band live I want to be able to actually see them and not watch them on a monitor from 250 yards away. But if thats your thing thats cool with me. Everybody should get a chance to experience music how they want to and this is just one of the many ways to do it. So have fun and remember to wear plenty of sunblock.

Vanilla,

Great idea! Except lets have Byrne on Friday night. That way we'll get two sets from Byrne and we wont have to leave the main stage for the boys late night. Either way we can all agree on skipping the Boss to rest up for late night Volta on saturday. Saw late night Volta the last time they played Roo. Absolutely sick! In my opinion there is no other spot for Volta and you cant have a legend like David Byrne in the middle of the day. Did anyone go to the 06 Bonnaroo? I thought Beck was going to be the underdog show of the weekend. But they put him on at like 3:00 in the afternoon. I would have rather gone and seen Hellen Keller attempt to play the harp.

Im not doggin the boss. Im just saying that WHEN I get stuck at the furthest campsite on the farm its going to be hard to justify going to the boss. I would be risking my energy for the late night shows. A 45 minute non-stop walk from your camp to Centeroo sucks dick.

Check this out. Kinda funny eventhough I am a fan of a couple of the bands mentioned.

It's going to be Beastie Boys headlining with Phish on Friday night. The Boss on Saturday with NIN getting the late night. David Byrne will get the spot right before Phish on Sunday and hopefully some mingling between the two will occur.

My question is what's going to happen with the SuperJam? It's going to be heavy in Phish members, no doubt, but it'll probably be opposite NIN. That will be the toughest pick for me over the weekend for sho'

Commercialized consumerism masked behind big musical names? Who are they trying to kid? Bonnarroo is the fucking antithesis of what a real festival is about. (This hallucination is proudly brought to you by MTV.)

JANES ADDICTION

just like sasquatch they'll play with Nine Inch Nails as part of their huge tour this summer. and it would fit pretty naturally, perry ferell is a staple at the festivals and it would look sweet on the next round of additions

Wait a second. Maybe I'm a little late but, every Phish fan I know and the ones on this site said they would never play Bonnaroo. No way in hell they'll play the roo. They'll play their own festival and then kill themselves before they play the roo. I'm confused.

CAPALDIUS-The reason Phish is playing fests this summer is because no insurance company will cover them if they attempt to put on a "Phish fest". IT and Conventry were total disasters money wise, and Phish is seen as a big liability (phans leaving thier cars on the side of the road and such are contributing reasons for this, meaning, Phish phans literally shut down a few highways during both fests). Anyhow, besides Bonnaroo, I heard that they are also going to play Rothbury, Outside Lands, and All points west this summer. More proof of this in Hampton as the Phish kick-off. They couldn't get insured on thier own fest, so they just decided to play 3 nights in a row, so no camping or anything like that was involved. So I guess, you can blaim the insurance companys for this one.

So, NIN/JA just announced their tourdates, and they're playing a show Friday night. Guess that means JA isn't headlining Bonnaroo that night. There goes that theory.
