Led Zeppelin Is Done
Jimmy Page's Manager Says Band Will Not Continue In Any Form

Led Zeppelin
Following up on our story from earlier this week regarding speculation of Led Zeppelin recording and touring without Robert Plant, we bring you news from Jimmy Page's manager that the band is done.

Peter Mensch (Page's manager), told Music Radar via NME.com that "Led Zeppelin are over. If you didn't see them in 2007 [at the London O2 Arena], you missed them. It's done. I can't be any clearer than that."

He went on to say, "They tried out a few singers [to replace Plant], but no one worked out. That was it. The whole thing is completely over now. There are absolutely no plans for them to continue. Zero... Frankly, I wish everybody would stop talking about it."

You know, this really doesn't dissapoint me. Sometimes it's just better to dig out the live recordings from yesteryear and groove on what was actually magic. If it can't be done right, it might as well not be done in my eyes. And they were making an effort, just weren't feeling it...I support them in not going out and just trying to rake in more money and put on a half-ass show.

Good! That's how it should be if Plant doesn't want to be there. Having someone stand in for him would've made the band and their entire brand look cheap.

That said...dammit! Why won't Plant suck it up and do a full tour w/ them? Everyone else is game. And Plant obviously still has the voice b/c he's been kicking ass w/ Allison. Come on man!

Who really had thier hopes up anyway...even if they would have toured, the tickets would have been terribly expensive...almost to Bonnaroo proportions! So it would have been full of a bunch of rich yuppies yellin': "Play Stairway to heaven, it's like, your bestest song ever...by the way, thier drummer must have been really young when they were famous"

This is good news... Zep is sacred .

I've got to comment on the manager though; Does anyone recall Zep's manager in Song remains the Same?

I just wonder if it is the same guy.

This guy says he wishes everyone would stop talking about it but it seems to me he is the one pressing it forward.

I mean we are talking a matter of days between the other news flash from him which is that Page)Basically the manager) is pressing forward to find a replacement.

That article through Jambase Published on: 1/7/09

In this blurb Mensch ( The manager says everyone else had a great time before Plant came ) I mean get real.

theragman.... is there a time line I'm missing here?

Thanks

It's a scientific fact that as youu enter your 60's your motor skills begin to experiance dysfunction. You need dem' motor skills to play guitar. hopefully some other bands will act their age finally call it quits. I would much rather pay $18 to see a young and innovative band in small intimate venue than pay $100 to watch some half zepplin elders painfully hack through a bunch of their old material in a stadium.

that doesn't rule out another band with Jimmy page and friends... I agree with search4cake... Phish could definitely take a cue from these guys... when you say you are done, have an official retirement tour and 4 years late come back and all your fans love it??? That is shameless... that is why The Dead or WSP might take some time off... but they love the music so they come back, but they never say they are done...

Ned8 Fri 1/9/2009 12:16PM
+2 Votes Thumbs down! Thumbs up!

The only difference in Phish, insofar as coming back together is they can still make it great.

I agree; don't say you are done just on hiatus

Maybe it is acceptable to some like say the rolling Stones to put a show together and have a bunch of backing musicians and yes, it sounds good but not to me great.

I'm happy Zep came to this decisions either by force or Plant's integrity.

Moving on

They're not burnt out! John rocks! Plant rocks! Baby Bonham rocks! It's either ego, which is a stupid reason, or their own fears about never topping what they once were, which is a plenty good reason.

But if they wanted to, they could do an awesome tour, and it would be worth my $100!

The Dead, The Allman Brothers & Phish receive so much love from there fans and see the great joy there shows bring to those fans.

read between the lines here. Led Zeppelin is done. There will not be a tour with plant. Page, Bonham, and Jones will tour either as a trio, or maybe a majorly expanded form. the last interview with page said that he was ready to make music, and obvoiusly, with all the appearances by john paul jones, he's ready to go. Now they just have to find a mix of old and new material, practice the shit out of it, come out with a name, and the tour will blow you all away. It will not be led zeppelin, or pretend to be, and this press release is the first step in distancing the band members from the name led zeppilin. This is GOOOOOOOD NEWS!!! I, personally cant wait for whatever the trio has next. plant... can just keep poking at his sour Krauss.

I am very glad to hear that there will be no "Imitation Zeppelin". How could you ever replace Robert Plant? Also, as far as Peter Mensch saying 'I wish everyone would stop talking about it'...THAT'S YOUR FAULT DICK! He was the one who made the announcement that Zeppelin would try and find a new singer to tour and create an album with. You can't make a statement like that and then be annoyed that people are talking about it. Maybe next time you will keep your damn mouth shut and you wont have to listen to people talking about a Zeppelin reunion. Ever think of that? So if this is the end of Led Zeppelin, thank you for all of the killer rock and roll!

I gotta go on record to say this is a huge disappointment. I hear all of you on the "let it be" and how they cannot recreate what once was, but if you read the reviews from the 2007 show, they melted faces completely off!

Besides playing the old stuff, imagine what new material may have come out! I am a bit pissed at Plant for not cooperating. Does he have a crush on Krauss or what??

What would be the point of Led Zep with half the band missing? The whole point was those 4 guys had great onstage chemistry born from years of experience and, particularly, lots of hard touring and gigging together. Sure, Page and Jones probably have a good rapport even now, but they would hardly be picking straight up where they left off.

But if they want to play together, why not? Why not a new studio project -- maybe instrumental -- that fuses their blues and rock legacy with a pile of world music influences. And do it instrumental. Those guys have the experience, and however Pagey's guitar hand is, he's still doubtless a wizard in the studio. I'd much rather hear a post-Zep project than a semi-Zep project. Do something strange and different, guys!

^Page hasn't played with vida blue in long time. I understand where these guys are coming from...kinda. It always grinds my gears when great bands refuse to play just because they can't get along with eachother....Cmon are we at recess or something....the beatles and zeppelin could have been pumping out great music for year and years but instead the fought like little bitches and just quit. To me that is the lamest weakest route you could possible take and its pretty damn selfish too. If you are gonna dedicate your life to be a musician and attract this giant fanbase you owe it to them to play music...not argue over whatever fucking hogwash they site as a reason for disbandment. Just look at phish....always come back, and its not cause they fight its for legitimate reasons like the music isnt good anymore and theyre having health problems.

if they wanna make music with a new singer i think they should change their name and wite some new material and maybe throw a few zep covers in here and there at shows. could you imagine if the guys from rage woulda keot touring as rage after zack left? that shit woulda be ridiculous labeled as rage. hence why they are audioslave and they wrote new material. exactly what hte guys from zep should do if they wanna play.
