NYE with Critters Buggin & Garaj

New Year's Eve Ball with Critters Buggin, Garaj Mahal & & DJ FunkFuzz
12/31/08 Olympia, WA's Historic Capitol Theatre

Critters Buggin
Featuring Critters Buggin and Garaj Mahal, two of the West Coast's most progressive and talented bands, as well as artwork from Cascadia's most talented artists, food from the area's top chefs and with Olympia's Historic Capitol Theatre as the setting, the 1st Annual Olympia New Year's Eve Ball is the Northwest's premier NYE show to attend. Artists from across Northern Cascadia have committed to having their works displayed and with helping to organize the designing of the historic 1920's-era Capitol Theatre. Limited space is still available and those interested in having their work be a part of this event should contact Nicholas at Ulotrichi@Bigstring.com.

In addition, Olympia's top chefs have opened up their restaurants to NYEB-goers. Offering the best in NW-fusion cuisine, these chefs maintain locally supported menus, featuring goods from the top farms in the NW. Go to www.Ulotrichi.com for more information on their special NYE menus.

For those coming in from out of town, or looking for a special night in downtown Olympia, The Governor Hotel is offering a special rate to those attending the 2008 NYEB. Just three blocks from The Capitol Theatre, The Governor is the perfect spot to stay after the show. Contact April Graff at april@olywagov.com; the promo code is New Year's Eve Ball.

Together these acts, and this show, represent the beginning of a new chapter, a collective release of the year that was. What better place to begin this new chapter than at the beautifully renovated Capitol Theatre with friends and family on the last night of 2008? Dress up, tune in, drop out, whatever it takes... just make it to the ball!

For the price and the line-up, this is one of the best deals I've seen for NYE. But doesn't Claypool also have a NYE show? I'm not sure how Mike D and Skerik can be at two places at once.

Gmoo- You are right that Les is playin NYE in SF but I think I read that it is a different lineup than his band that included Skerik and Mike Dillon.

If I lived in Washington I would definitely check this out. Garaj Mahal is sick! Can't go wrong with Kai Eckhardt on the bass and Fareed on guitar.

Les has some new tricks up his sleeve he is not telling anyone. But I think this years line up for Les is Paulio Baldi(drums)Gabby La La(sitar, Etc.)MIRV(Guitar) & Sam bass (Chello) Ralph Carney was going to fit the bill as well but I don't think thats happening now. Critters is the place to be. Sure Les will be great as well (just pricy)

Is that Chris Kataan on the left?

Mike D is super-crazed percussion. He used to throw-down in my hometown with his g0-g0 jungle.

The dude on the left is the very talented Brad Houser (bass)also of the New Bohemians among other projects... Also on the right is Matt Chamberlin (drums)also extremely talented and plays with Tori Amos among other projects. This should prove to be a very interesting night of music indeed!

Might As Well

Garaj is amazing although I miss their original drummer Alan Hertz. Not quite the Northwests premier NYE show either in my opinion. I'm going to Railroad Earth in Portland!

this will be as psychedelic as it gets for NYE '09, Matt Chamberlin is a God amongst drummers...

Great double bill for a show! Wish this one was closer to home.

If you ever get the chance to see either of these bands go!

Love Garaj Mahal But, Critter's is one of the most crazy shows I have ever witnessed.
