In addition, the event itself will serve as a toy drive where guests are encouraged to bring unwrapped toys ranging from $10-$20 to donate to needy families staying at the Henry Robinson Multi Service Center in Oakland. As in years past, attendees are also encouraged to sport a cheesy holiday sweater to help push the holiday vibe.
The Holiday Sweater Good Vibe Drive begun three years ago when Matt Butler and Matt Layton wanted to build an event during the holiday season that would give back to the Bay Area community. The event spawned out of a typical Everyone Orchestra show, in which the lineup is always changing and features members of nationally touring acts improvising in a live music setting that finds Butler conducting both the musicians on stage as well as attendees in the crowd, but also focusing on creating an event that took steps to raise awareness and consciousness to families in the bay who are underprivileged and unable to give the gift of giving. In another attempt to ensure the festivities felt more like a special event, attendees are encouraged to wear cheesy holiday sweaters to help encompass the holiday season and bring together a sense of fun and unison, hence the “Holiday Sweater Good Vibe Drive” Since its inception in 2006, F&F and the Good Vibe Drive have raised and distributed over 800 toys to local families in need.
The Henry Robinson Multi Service Center is a transitional housing program that serves 54 homeless families for up to two years. While families live in on-site apartments, they have access to three meals a day, a comprehensive Children’s Services Program, and a variety of support services. They also provide a day-time Drop In Center for homeless individuals.
Ryan Kerrigan has created an amazing full size silk screen poster to commemorate the night’s festivities and this incredible cause. The posters will be for sale at the show. In addition, F&F will be having a set break raffle that will offer a wide variety of signed CDs, posters, ticket packages and more from the associated acts participating in the event to anyone who donates a toy.
