Exclusive First Listen: Paul McCartney
Hear The Entire Album, Featuring McCartney And Youth As The Fireman

Listen To Electric Arguments

The Fireman: Youth (at left) and Paul McCartney
When The Fireman released its debut album in 1993 — the instrumental dance and electronica mix Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest — the band's identity was a mystery. U.K. music magazine Melody Maker eventually exposed The Fireman as a duo featuring the bassist and producer known as Youth and, to everyone's surprise, Paul McCartney. Reviewers praised the collaboration as "staggeringly brilliant," but it was a strange and entirely unexpected direction for the former Beatle.

McCartney and Youth followed their debut five years later with Rushes, another instrumental album the two described as "ambient dreams in rainbow arches." But The Fireman fell silent for the next decade, as the two returned to their own projects.

Last year, McCartney and Youth returned to work as The Fireman for their third release together, Electric Arguments. Unlike the previous albums, The Fireman's new studio disc features vocals. McCartney entered the studio, without any material, and recorded 13 songs in 13 days. He played all the instruments, with Youth at the helm as producer. The Fireman offered the first single from the album, "Lifelong Passion," as a download from the band's Website for anyone making a donation to the Adopt-A-Minefield charity.

Electric Arguments is sometimes bluesy and gritty, with McCartney howling against fuzzy guitars ("Nothing Too Much Just Out of Sight"), sometimes delicate and beautiful ("Two Magpies") and sometimes lush and elegant ("Sing the Changes"). At times, the album veers off into entirely experimental directions, like the mash of ambient noises and sound effects on "Universal Here, Everlasting Now."

Electric Arguments will be released on November 25 on ATO Records. In the meantime, the label and The Fireman are offering this free, exclusive preview of the entire album, as a stream. Listen To Electric Arguments here.

fast forward to 28.00 (minute 28) on this 'exclusive' free album, and that is a pretty good song (or, at least my favorite fireman song I've heard so far)

I've been waiting, but not expecting, a follow up to Rushes for years now. I was even talking to my friend about that the other day. I'll definitely be picking this up...or maybe it will go on the old xmas list.

is just waiting for someone to say the beatles suck. Only on Jambase.

Deprogrammer: Mr. and Mrs. Simpson, your son has clearly been

brainwashed by the evil and charismatic Mr. Burns.

Marge: Are you sure you can get him back for us?

Deprogrammer: Absolutely. I'm the one who successfully deprogrammed

Jane Fonda, you know.

Marge: What about Peter Fonda?

Deprogrammer: Oh, that was a heartbreaker. But I _did_ get Paul

McCartney out of Wings.

Homer: You idiot! He was the most talented one.

im confused frog legs, is it a shame the 2 AWESOME Beatles had to die, or that is sucks that the 2 'coolest' ones dies. It is obvious Sir Paul doesnt rate very well on your awesome and cool meter, so my guess is that NICU971 was just merely disagreeing with you. I think he is cool, awesome, and a musical genius, I mean, he is the walrus for shits sake

hey cocksmoker I know what you said. But to say that the 2 "cool beatles" died is just about the dumbest fucking thing I ever heard. Look how many songwriting credits on Beatles albums go to Lennon/McCartney. In my opinion writing all that amazing music makes him a "cool beatle."

hahhaha this is great i make a 90 percent joking comment (10%percent being true because i find paul and ringo to be the least cool beatles) and all you jowly paul lovers come crying bloody murder. i figure nicu971 and conjugal burning may be skirts, cuz girls always were suckers for paul. its just i look at all their solo stuff. and lennons was super cool, inspirational and fresh. harrison's was very ecclectic in an innovative way. and way more complex than the others. and paul and ringo's shit just seemed un inspired, tired, cheesy, irrelevant and goofy. and im sorry linda mccartney and wings was sooooooooooooooo uncool. and to sum up ringos lame solo work, listen to a solo song called 'photopraph' by ringo i even saw ringo live and had a backstage pass. not only was he a yuppie tool but his live show was clown shoes. but even when the beatles were together there was conflict over songs lennon and harrison wanted to experiment more and give the beatles broader song structures and more genres to work with, while paul wanted to stick with the lovey-dovey shit that the record labels wanted and were easy to market . and u saw what happened when u gave ringo creative control u got shit like octopus's garden. so yeh kids do ur homework first and nicu u sure can fit alot of insults in such a small brain , but then again ur juust some poser who registered on this months ago. and C. Burning lennon is the eggman for shits sake

FrogLegs, if you are not retrospective enough to look back at your comment and understand why people would take it as antagonistic, then you are an uber n00b. If you judge coolness vs. poserness based on when you joined jambase, then I am sure your criteria for who are the cooler members of the Beatles is equally intellectual.

friedfroglegs i respect your opinion fully, and actually agree with you to a degree. I too enjoy Lennon and Harrison's song writing over Paul and Ringo's, it was just your tone that expressed the latter two as being less "awesome" or "cool" that provokes such reactions.

Good stuff, I had no idea Paul did this kind of stuff.

Mike is "cooler" than Trey but not "cooler" than Page.

Jimmy is 'cooler" than Robert, but not John

Keith is "cooler" than Mick, but not Brian

Brian is "cooler" than Malcom, but not Angus

Jermaine is "cooler" than Michael, but not Tito

My fav band is "cooler" than yours.

Actually FriedFrogLegs, you don't have your history right. Paul was actually the most avant garde of the Beatles. He came up with the tape loops on Tommorrow Never Knows and composed the swirling orchestral piece of A Day in the Life. But because those are "John" songs people assume he was the innovative one. You're just drawing on stereotypes based upon some cheesy singles Paul released in the '70s. He is much more complex than you're trying to portray.

Froglegs- First off, Go fuck yourself! Second- I agree that Paul McCartney and Wings was lame, but that doesn't take anything away from his work with the Beatles. And here's a reality check for you- If Lennon and McCartney hadn't been the prolific songwriters they were in the begining than Harrison wouldn't even have had a solo career to like or dislike.

first of all none of you guys know how to handle a joke. seriously i did not intend to offend people or even be serious for that manner.

SmashySmashy, u called me an "Uber n00b"?? hahaha. your vocabulary alone gives me reason to believe you are a bonafied ass hat. oh and smashy calling people 'noobs" ,or however u queers spell it , when u havent even been a member of this site for a year is a little moronic.

C. Burning- u handled urself in a stand up manner , kudos, too bad the others couldnt be civilized

Glamour Professsion - not only are u a troll, a stalker, and a creep to the max(if u dont remember this guy , its probably because he changes his name frequently because he literally STALKS people on here, he had the name 'tha name game' for awhile), your a prententious asshole, also u should keep ur ryan adams obsession to urself, u make it very clear u are borderline gay for him seeing that u mention his name in most of ur posts even if its not relevant. nobody likes u on here and im sure the same is true with the outside world.

NICU971- ok i get it you love u some jowly paul mccartney, but seriously learn to take a joke

Well, it depends on your perspective. I personally believe artists should be judged on their best work rather than their worst. By the time the Beatles broke up, I think his legacy was secure, no matter what he has put out since then.

Sir Paul is the shit fo'sho. I like most of what Paul has done since the 90's, a good deal of his stuff from Wings and other solo stuff. The man was one of THE BEATLES too...that alone makes him one of the coolest cats to walk the planet. I have 4 concert DVD's of Paul McCartney concerts from 2002 or so and onwardand they are simply fantastic. His touring band is absolutely top notch and put on one of the very best shows out there. The DVD's give me chills, so I can only imagine how transcendent a live Paul McCartney show is. I've actually renewed my passport because I WILL SEE a SIR PAUL show in the next few years. He plays in front of 200,000 - 400,000 people every time out and totally tears the house down.

Paul is the PREMIER LIVING LEGEND OF MUSIC ALIVE RIGHT NOW. Show some respect y'all and give the man his props. If you dont like it, then leave it. If you dig it, then love it. And If you think to type anything negative on this post, then dont actually type it and keep it to yourself.

As I wrote all of the above I heard the first half of THE FIREMAN's new album. I think its quite good at first listen and can only get better with a listen on my kick ass home system instead of the computer. I love what Sir Paul is doing at his age. Not many other artists his age are so prolific and so good consistently.

Long live Paul McCartney.......
