The new deal kicks ass they should really play more, maybe late night in ATL for New years. Umphreys is trash though and probably ruined this show, they are a glorified cover band who sucks at covering songs . its pathetic

I saw UM at the hob last week and it was boring as hell sans a few songs but this show actually looks fun. Especially those fairy hotties! But as far as UM I just cant get into them because once they start groovin , here comes a pointless guitar solo or the switch up the tempo into some technical bullcrap. But hey if they are your cup of tea more power to ya!

this review is weak on substance (complementary though it was). mentioning a total of 3 songs UM played does not do the show justice, especially when you wrote as much about the afterparty as the headliners.

i was at the show, and UM was fucking transcendent. loved tND, they groove hard. to the people who don't get it, UM is special because they can play almost any genre of music as well as bands that are completely devoted to a given genre. they can drop spacey trancy dance grooves like bisco or tribe (who slayed in santa cruz recently). they can thrash like nobody's business (check out this show's ac/dc-sabbath mashup, or the pantera/metallica gorillaz encore). they can get funky, they can do reggae, jazz, whatever. and now they're doing mash-ups that would make girl talk cry.

if UM is too versatile or complicated for your tastes, that's understandable. they're intense, and you need to be open to different musical traditions to appreciate everything they do. you don't have to see them. but DON'T TELL ME THEY SUCK. DON'T TELL ME THEY'RE BORING. because objectively they're as talented, as multifaceted, and as ambitious as any band you like.

Well another thing that sucked about their show in LA was that all the chicks left after the first set! and yes I mean all!!!! You would never see that happen at a Sound tribe or biscuit show! Plus their songs have no "heart" , no "soul." Yes they are good musicians but so what! How about some song structure guys! Hate on me all you want but you know I speaketh the truth!!!

this show ROCKED-- it was a straight up circus freak show. SO much fun. So proud of the guys for coming up with the awesomest halloween theme ever and pulling through with extreme creativity and SICKKK music. I loved every second of it! spongebob marley is one of my best friends, larry bigbird was AWESOME and won the costume contest, and those girls that someone called fairies were actually supposed to be the four seasons-- which i thought was a pretty creative idea to mash up four girls and still look cute!

overall one of the most incredible music experiences of my life-- so glad i made the trip out to san fran, hopefully umph will make the mashup a new halloween tradition!

sounded and looked like a great time, from what i've seen so far had to be the place to be on all hallows eve. umph definatly knows how to get down and the new deal, well that goes without saying as well. A good show to one and all...enjoy

Roswell is right um has no soul to their music im not debating that they are talented muscicians but the music that they make collectively is terrible the crowd stands around most the time. I have given this band many of chaces from the boston show at bank of america to summer camp many local shows and the phili late night show, and not once have they had the crowd energy that a tribe show has. Boston they had the most energy but half the kids were still sitting down, and they covered about six songs that night .I just dont understand how this band can be so pupular when half their songs are cover songs.

I dont like any of those bands,and on a personal level sts9 has taken me emotionally to places that umphreys never could. and since when does singer mean soul you dumb fuck. There has been many bands that have had soul that havent had a singer. Now i do agree with schofizzle that sts9 has lost some of their soulfulness by using the lap tops more and playing the same set more often, but this isnt a sts9 umphreys debate. Umphreys in my opinion is one of the corniest bands in the jam scene and i dont understand how people can like it , but once again this is my opinion which i am entitled to so dont take it on such a personal level, or act like you know me, because i am far from a drugged out hippie who is just being irrational here. If anything you guys are the ones being irrational , getting offended by an opinion. no and that would be cool but the only bands ive heard them cover is metallica a couple of times, blue oyster cult and a bunch of 80s songs when they were the omega moos. Like i said i have given them about ten chances and wanted to like them . Whenever you try, they go a different direction and play some silly solo or something non-danceable. Their style is kinda "gimmicky" but hey if it gets you off so be it! @Roswell, I was at HoB Sunset last week. Me and my friends were having a blast watching them play and I guess you didn't notice all the girls on the right dancing their asses off. They were doing some crazy dance jams that sounded more electronic than rock at times. It was awesome for me. I have learned their sound isn't for everyone, I hope you were talking about their San Diego HoB show though b/c they were on fire in L.A.
