Boots Riley & Tom Morello Tour

The Coup's Boots Riley to Open Tom Morello Solo Tour Starting November 1

Boots Riley
After marching together at the Democratic National Convention and playing together at both the DNC and the RNC, Boots Riley (The Coup) and Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, the Nightwatchman) are going on tour together. The famed guitarist and activist has tapped the incendiary political MC to be main support on his North American tour, beginning on November 1 in San Francisco.

On November 3, Riley and Morello will play a Get Out the Vote rally and concert in Seattle WA, alongside Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard and Mike McCready and other special guests. The show is part of a larger effort by all the artists involved to energize young voters in this historic election.

Following the three week tour with Morello, Boots will then play two shows with 10-time Grammy nominated Meshell Ndegeocello in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

A lifelong activist, raised, residing and educating in Oakland CA, Boots Riley will be the keynote speaker at the 2008 Practical Activism Conference at the University of California, Santa Cruz on October 25. Riley's work, which ranges from local issues in the Bay Area – such as his efforts alongside other human rights organizations to block California's Proposition 21 - to international concerns – such as his participation the World Conference Against Racism – has set "an unprecedented standard of political organizing among hip-hop artists" (College Nine and College Ten).

With titles such as Steal This Album, Kill My Landlord and Genocide & Juice, The Coup (founded in 1991 by Boots Riley and DJ Pam the Funkstress) has always been a vehicle for Riley's outspoken political beliefs. The Coup are currently in the studio, recording the follow-up to their 2006 Epitaph debut Pick A Bigger Weapon.

thats a poltical combo worth checking out! Morello's the f'in man, even though mass of the haters here probably associate him with socialism, therefore fear his ideals in general. What else can you say about Boots and The Coup? they release album work with the twin towers exploding prior to 9-11. When it comes to the world around us Boots is on top of his game. Insightful and poetic, It looks like the Indy date is on for myself

Interesting ... Supposedly, Boots, Morello and Stanton Moore laid down tracks that were supposed to be released under the name STREET SWEEPER

yeah BGsteve... Americans CRAVE socialism all right... We should all vote for Obama so we can socialize all the institutions in this country. Lets start off with the police. Then lets move to the Fire department. While we are knee deep in the evils of socialism why not add in public education?? And to Jeffrom knox, why would a communist not sell his product in a system that is capitalist and corrupt?

Socialism?! I feel like I'm hearing bullshit spewed from the mouth of Sarah "I'm a stupid bitch" Palin herself. Nice original argument guys...

I love hippies and their politics. It's not a question of whether Obama is socialist or not, only whether you have a problem with it. If Obama had (misguided) faith in the American public he would just come out and say "I have socialist values". He supports social health care and a 35% corporate tax rate... and taking money from some to give to others. That's like, the textbook definition. It doesn't make him better or worse than McCain, people are just trained to hate that word.

McCain is also a borderline socialist, check out the Libertarian Party's website, Bob Barr will explain why. McCain is also a douche bag, and supports medieval social policy/ gives a phuck less about the constitution. Palin's a moron but she read the word socialist correctly off the teleprompter.. which I guess makes her sorta correct. If she somehow gets in the white house I'm flyin a Canadian flag the next day.

Anyone get to see Morello shred at Tool? Id vote for that.

ConjugalBurning- Look at the amount of money Tom Morello makes and then tell me if he's a true communist. Capitalism has obviously served him pretty well, as much as he'd hate to admit it.

Sorry, I hate talk politics, but I think it's appropriate considering the nature of the article.

saw tom play at "we the people", nothing special at all. the fact that he was 25 minutes late ( just tom, his band was on stage waiting for him) forcing les to only play 4 songs makes me not like him even more.

Good news .... I just got an email from Stanton Moore. StreetSweeper's debut CD featuring Stanton Moore, Boots Riley and Tom Morello will be released in early 2009.

Taking money from corporations to help those who need it more is not such a bad idea. After all, it's corporations like Wal-Mart who have cause mom & pop type stores to go out of business. Walmart then hires teenagers and geriatrics for minimum wage and in the process destroys a lot of jobs in small business. Yet Republicans claim to be for small business (e.g. Joe (the unlicensed) Plumber, Phil the Bricklayer, and Wendy the waitress) yet they just understand. Small businesses under Obama would basically be unaffected by this change in tax brackets for those making more than $250,000/year through a decrease in their capital gains taxes. But the conservatives don't usually mention this. And Joe the Plumber is idiot. Apparently there is one toilet that Joe doesn't want to unclog.

I just find it funny that when mainstream America hears 'socialism' they get scared shitless, as if we are in McCarthyistic times again. Creepublicans are going to use this scare tactic more and more as the election draws near, even though many institutions (police, fire, schools) are socialized and working.
