Mickey Hart Band and Phil and Friends were awsome this summer not to mention Ratdogs epic tour last summer with Kimock. Caught one of the last "Dead" shows in 2004 and hoped it wouldn't be the last. Can't wait.

Actually, I am in accordance with Summertime .... I'd love it if ... The Dead ... put out new music and toured with that music ... And I HAVE seen MANY MANY "Dead" shows, including with JG. This does smack of (to me) nostalgia and finances ... If it happens, I think Phil should take the lead. I dig Phil as a band leader far more than Bobby. And Mickey and Bill too, since I've seen Rhythm Devis and Bill's Trio. Not a big Bobby fan - he's WAY to much about Nostalgia. They others at least changed things up, moved on. But if it happens, I'll certainly be interested in checking it out, anyway.

And I've heard plenty of Grateful Dead shows in my lifetime. Enough to know that I generally prefer live Grateful Dead shows from 1968 to 1974 over their other performing years. I've got more than enough Dicks Picks and multi track recordings where I don't need to hear any more live stuff.

But what pray tell me does hearing a new incarnation of these musicians live have to do with being *ARTISTS* & *CREATING* new original material on a new studio album???? Please DO tell here.

The only swindle here is a nostalgia act going out with no new material and then only selling a whole bunch of live discs of the shows and touring for money only.

Have you seen them?..Kimock has no current incarnation of SKB, but has graced the stage the last 6 to 8 months with more musicians than I can count, he has played with Billy, Mickey and Bobby (all in the last year). Easter Bunny? Maybe. Hey Summertime, did they call you and tell you this tour will have no new material? Please do spend your money on other up and comers and support the scene. That is about the only intelligent thing you had to say.

Summertime, You have no idea what you are talking about. To suggest that the remaining members of the Grateful Dead would tour for money is ridiculous. This band was never about the money. They were about making music and changing the world. They definitely dont need money now. I will go see them, and I will continue to seek out young vibrant musicians as well. Why does it have to be one or the other?

No, they didn't call me and tell me if they had composed brand new original material. Have you heard or heard of any new material in the works? The Other Ones 1998, 2000, 2002, The Dead 2003 & 2004 had no brand new album. I hope I'm wrong and as artists that they *DO* at least attempt to CREATE brand new original material. Though they may need some help and someone elses line may need to be burned up -->

i am REALLY not trying to be negative here, and if you disagree i'm sorry, but to me it's a shame that the dead are reforming around politics rather than for their own artistic pursuits. Jerry would never have been a part of this, he always opted to remain politically inactive, I can't remember the quote exactly but it was something to the effect of "choosing the lesser of 2 evils is still choosing evil". I'm not saying obama is a bad candidate, but we all know that in order to be a major player in politics these days means compromising a lot of beliefs. The politicians who don't compromise are written off and don't stand a chance. It hope for the sake of the country that Obama is the man that the Dead sees him as, but I their music entwined so much with their political ideas, for me that is not the Grateful Dead and it will make the music a little bittersweet.

This is incredible, i really hope that they actually come within a few hours of where i live that would be superb because i am willing to go distance to catch these guys. The sad thing is though that i really love what the plf and ratdog are doing right now respectively, but then again the dead will be great. What i dont understand is why people are so insistent that they create new material, dont just create new songs for the hell of it, play them only if theyre good. that being said did i say that i cant wait for this

Who Cares if Jerry was politically inactive. seriously. was jerry a perfect human, he was an artist of all forms, and he was quite literate and he was a smart person, but to be uninvolved in politics because things are not perfect in this system is simply cowardice and an easy way out. Jerry is wrong for not caring about politics, as a citizen we should do what we can to change what we can, do whatever is in your power to control. I love that the dead in the abscense of jerry have started to care about what politics can do for the people that need it, and Obama is the guys that can finally do the things the dead have idealized since the 60's
