Tribute to Martin Fierro: 8/8

January 18, 1942 - March 13, 2008

Martin Fierro
There have been various private memorials for the Martin Fierro, but now the members of Zero will pay tribute in public on Friday, 08.08.08 at The Fillmore in San Francisco. The show will include Steve Kimock, Greg Anton, Bobby Vega, Pete Sears, Chip Roland, Judge Murphy, Banana, Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay, Melvin Seals, John Morgan Kimock, Hadi Al-Sadoon, Jon Farey and special guests.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Seva Foundation's Native American programs (Martin was Apache and Tarahumara) in honor of Martin.

The show will be opened by MFQ, with a special performance by Jessica Fierro, Martin's nine-year-old daughter. Regarding the donations to Jessica Fierro's education fund, Lisa Fierro says, "We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your donations to Jessica. You all have been so incredibly generous and your kindness will not be forgotten."

OK, chut up!

Unfortunately, my first introduction to Martin was late in life...when stepped up on stage and made himself at home for an Asphalt Funk, Rattlin'>Kali Yuga:

i got into the whole "scene" a little late, so i have missed some of the most important jam bands and other great musicians, but i was lucky enough to see zero when they did that short 4 show run on the east coast. i saw them rock a near empty state theatre in falls church, va, and it is still one of the best shows i've ever been too. rest in peace meester, and thanks for the great music and great memories from that april night in '07.

^^^You are an idiot...way to show some class. Fierro was a huge part of why the legion got together. I am a devout Garcia fan, but he screwed that band by booking a tour with them and then jumping ship.

Martin will be missed and I was at that 03 Incident and there was no ruining of the show. This show 8-8-08 will be hot fire.

See You all tonight... judging from rehearsals, it's gonna be a smokin show. The Meester lives on through the love he showed us all, fellow band members, friends, fans and freaks.

an anecdotal from Legion of Mary: Meester to Garcia: "Is it OK to play the way I've been playing... I don't want to step on anyones toes or anything" Garcia to Meester: "Martin, I want you toplay to your hearts content"... and that's what made the Legion of Mary so special.

But Zero... now thats a whole nother story and how blessed we have been to experience Meesters vibrant contribution to one of my favorite bands, ever. we love you Martin!

Jessica Fierro stole the show! Her set break contribution was both beautiful and emotional. As for the four and one half hour jam session---speechless I am. That Zero community brings a family atmosphere into a smokin' show. We loved you Martin---OCHUTUP!
