Keller To Release Live Album

Keller Williams
Keller Williams has built a career on his uncanny ability to captivate a packed house all by himself. So why now, after fifteen-years as a solo artist, is he releasing a live album-simply titled, Live with three other names on the cover? It turns out that since he first picked up a guitar, this troubadour has wanted to front a band.

On Live (September 16, 2008 / SCI Fidelity Records), Keller taps into the world-class talent of Keith Moseley (bass - The String Cheese Incident), Gibb Droll (guitar - Marc Broussard, Brandi Carlile), and Jeff Sipe (drums - Aquarium Rescue Unit, Leftover Salmon). The musical horsepower of four friends playing together on stage proves stronger than even Keller had dreamed. Recorded at select live shows during a winter 2008 tour, and featuring seventeen tracks that span Keller's career, Live is a testament to how a band, with the right chemistry and chops, can take a song to places even the writer couldn't have imagined.

"What a treat after so many years of being in control," Williams says. "The band has a knack for hanging a sharp left that I don't see coming." As the principal singer/songwriter, Keller may be driving this musical train, but he doesn't always know where it's headed. Williams puts unyielding faith in Moseley, Droll, and Sipe's ability to sustain the conversation. And, as with every live recording worth a damn, the audience is an integral part. On Live the crowd sizzles with energy; they know they're witnessing something special.

Catch Keller Williams featuring Keith Moseley, Gibb Droll, and Jeff Sipe on tour this fall, making stops on the West Coast for the first time ever. The complete list of confirmed tour dates is as follows:

Keller is the Man, what an electric soul. The new band is great too, Gibb Droll can tear it up on guitar. He must have been soloing with the craziness the whole second set when I saw them in March.

I'll be interested to see how the disc sounds. I've seen WMDs a few times now and haven't been crazy about any performance. Each night there were a few gems but they just didn't seem to take me there. Maybe the got better after I saw them or had some blistering nights that'll be on the disc. For me, Gibb's style doesn;t seem to fit very well- IMHO. He goes straight into wailing solos rather than sort of building you there and allowing the journey to happen. But still a huge Keller fan and hoping this release will change my opinion on the WMDs.

Have to agree with phunkle, something about the WMD's strikes me wrong. I absolutely love keller live, but I always thought his crowd participation and the games he plays on stage were the most fun aspects of his performance. I just feel that he is too confined with the WMD's and needs a little room to improv his beats, noises and vocals. All that bullshit aside, its damn good music and worth every penny to see.

NYE 07-08 I was offering $100 to anyone who could hit him with a small box of cereal that were scattered on the ground. Nobody could do it, sadly. Man is SPENT. So were the Bisco kidz... poor accuracy all around. They did hit Berko, but who could miss Chubbo...

Josh, I know Trey is currently rehearsing with our local favorite drummer, Russ Lawton, who did some tours with Trey and is also in Strangefolk and the killer trio here in Vermont named Honeywell. If you get the chance, see them. Russ is an animal and a heck of a nice guy. Sorry folks, off the Keller subject.

I'm a huge SCI fan, but saying Moseley is "class talent" on the bass is an overstatement. He is a very solid bassist, don't get me wrong, but not quite as flashy as someone with "class talent". Somewhat comparable to Todd Nance for Panic. Solid instrumentalists, not very flashy. Sometimes it would have been nice to hear Moseley get down.

I love Keller, I do not love the WMD's. Mosely is completly replaceable in the band. And Keller looses all his mojo when he plays with them. The only band I like seeing Keller in is Keller Williams Incident. And they tore it up at 10KLF on '06. That was such a fun show. SCI should move on without Nershi and add Keller on vocals lead guitar.

I personally love the WMD'S! I've had the privilege of seeing them twice this year, once at The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC and at All Good and they brought the heat! The band as a whole is sick, the crowd was in to both shows I was at, and I'm surprised that more people aren't diggin their sound!

Agreed with both Muffinman and sg1127 that Keller loses his mojo w/ the WMDs and needs to do more of his solo experimentation stuff. Although, I've been told he has started doing more of that and even doing a few songs by himself at the start and/or end of sets. That would definitely liven up their shows a good bit. And it's not just Keller having folks play with him, Keller w/ the Keels is smoking hot every time!

please drop this band and tour solo again. sipe, droll, and mosely are all good musicians just not with keller. keller touring solo is what makes his shows so amazing. i caught the WMD'S and was utterly bored at the show. ive seen keller solo a bunch of times and there is no comparison! come back to the canopy club by yourself broseph!
