Ben Folds New Album: 9/30

BEN FOLDS TO RELEASE NEW RECORD, WAY TO NORMAL, SEPTEMBER 30

Ben Folds
Epic Records is proud to announce the release of the much-anticipated new album from Ben Folds, Way To Normal, on September 30, 2008. The album, Folds' third as a solo artist since the break up of the Ben Folds Five in 2000, was mostly recorded at his studio in Nashville and produced by Dennis Herring (Elvis Costello, Modest Mouse, The Hives). Featuring Folds on vocals and piano, Way to Normal also features long-time bassist Jared Reynolds and drummer Sam Smith as well as a guest vocal from indie pop heroine Regina Spektor on the album's first single, "You Don't Know Me."

Way to Normal is an exuberant, raucous, and sometimes profane mix of sure-fire crowd-pleasers ("Hiroshima," "Bitch Went Nuts," and the frenetically fuzzed-out "Dr. Yang"), cheerful snark-fests ("The Frown Song," "Brainwascht"), and thoughtful, moving ballads ("Cologne," "Kylie From Connecticut") that Folds wrote at the end of 2007 following the finalization of a two-year divorce.

But it should not be assumed that Way to Normal is Folds' version of Marvin Gaye's Here My Dear or Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks (though Folds says that in the early stages of recording he came close to calling the album "Blood on the Keyboard").

"The songs are not topical," Folds says. "I was not interested in making a record about the D-word. I got all that stuff out of my system on the last record [2005's pensive Songs for Silverman], which was deliberately stoic. This new album is really about me being free, which is why it feels cathartic and expressive. It's about me coming back to being myself." (Hence the title.) "I came out of the courthouse, kissed the ground, and walked straight into the studio. I felt like a bottle of champagne that had been shaken for 18 months and popped open in the studio. That's why this record has so much energy."

Ben Folds has been performing at many summer festivals this year, and will continue to tour worldwide in support of Way To Normal throughout the fall and into 2009.

It figures a sndtribefreak would say that. If the story doesn't interest you then don't comment.

I look forward to listening to this new album. Ben Folds always brings something fun to the music table.

Ben Folds is able to throw it down acoustically, whereas STS9... not so much. He has some really good music and I look forward to hearing this one.

I love both STS9 and Ben Folds. Can't we all just get along?

Haven't listened to a ton of Ben Folds, but I bought "Ben Folds Live" last year and it is pretty sick. If you like some piano and pretty well written songs, its good stuff.

Used to see Ben's college band, Majosha, 20 years ago in tiny NC pizza restaurants like Boone's Sollecito's. They were a white funk band that played in sparkly jump suits and huge fro wigs. Freakin' hilarious and drop dead good. No joke....they brought it.

comment cos its a free country, we are entitled to our opinions, even if they go against each other. I do not care for BF. meh.

does not mean it isn't good, just that I don't care for it.

however, I am sure there are many bands we probably all like, certainly I hope so!

Ah, gotta love the lonely no-life newbie dude who thinks he's found our scene but has no clue that he'll never really be a part of it cause of his negative attitude. Yeah, just go to all the storys you have no interest at all in and leave an ass comment. Im sorry bro but, you think you're instigating but what most of us really see is a sad lonely hater, obvious that you have no life by the mere fact that you would go to a story you have no interest in and comment. You keep going to your Sound Tribe shows my friend, and keep pretending that you're having fun and are part of the "scene". The true old school of us will sit back and watch as you ruin what was once a truly beautiful, enlightening experience when EVERYONE was part of a culture (complete with our own rules of etiquette) of kindness and community. Something you will never know because it's not the same anymore due to the influx of hating insensitive folks such as yourself. Jerry would never have approved of anyone loving the Dead yet bashing on another band. We are suppose to be open to all music. It something doesn't appeal to you....DON'T LISTEN TO IT!.

Sorry for the rant (and I do realize that people like Soundtribeidiot are just trying to get a rise). peace to y'all....Rusty Kriznizzle

Oh yeah...Ben Folds is absolutely sick! he plays the piano so hard he has to put bandaids on his fingers! This guy writes incredible songs. When they put the fuzz bass in the mix, it is mind-blowing! I, for one, am looking forward!
