Whistler Fest: Elvis, BSS, Roots

Elvis Costello and The Imposters, The Roots, and Canada's own Broken Social Scene are among the artists that have been tapped for the inaugural Whistler Music Festival, set to take place July 19 and 20 in Whistler, BC. The lineup reflects the eclectic taste of Whistler and Vancouver area residents and the caliber of entertainment expected by visitors to the world-class resort. Other artists secured for the two-day festival include Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Medeski Martin & Wood, Bedouin Soundclash and Serena Ryder. An additional marquee artist will be announced in the coming weeks.

Ticket sales begin May 29 at 9 a.m., and are available exclusively at www.whistlermusicfestival.com or via phone at (877) 655-4TIX. Tickets are CAD $67.50 for single-day passes and CAD $120.00 for two-day passes. Whistler residents can buy tickets at a discounted rate of CAD $57 for single-day passes up to one month prior to the event. Whistler is a year-round leisure and meeting destination located in the Coast Mountains 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and is site of the alpine, Nordic, and sliding events for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Whistler has a range of accommodations totaling 3,200 hotel rooms, and more than 5,000 other tourist accommodation units including condos, B&Bs and chalets. Whistler offers a wide selection of restaurants, bars, spas, boutiques, and activities from world-renowned skiing and snowboarding, mountain biking and golf, to hiking, rock climbing, and watersports. Whistler Blackcomb Mountains, featuring 3,036 hectares (8,171 acres) of terrain and receiving an average of 10 meters (33 feet) of snow annually, will launch the record breaking PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola linking the two mountains via a 4.4 kilometre/11 minute journey, this December. The Resort Municipality of Whistler is home to a diverse community of more than 10,000 permanent residents.

Whister is the most beautiful place that i've ever been to. The Drive from Vancouver to Whistler is simply breathtaking. I really would love to go to this festy now. Hopefully they do it next year with a disgusting lineup and in the winter. I'll tell anyone considering going to go, cause it is a beautiful place and last I heard Marijuana is as legal in B.C. as it is in Amsterdam.

hey pig, I agree. I vacationed in Vancouver/Whistler in 1995 and it is the most beautiful place I've ever been. Day packing to the third highest waterfall (Shannon Falls) in north america was sweet. Cant wait to go back....

Oh, man, I thought that was gonna be Elvis PRESLEY, not Costello. Too bad, fooled by another headline. Not a bad lineup though, if you're Canadian.
