Donna Summer Album/Tour

FIRST NEW ALBUM IN 17 YEARS
FROM PIONEERING SURVIVOR OF DISCO ERA

Singer/songwriter/pop culture icon Donna Summer has been working hard on Crayons, her bold and long-awaited new collection of songs, the artist's first full-length studio album of newly-penned material since 1991's Mistaken Identity and her first new release since VH1 Presents: Live & More Encore! the companion to her top-rated VH1 television special which returned her to the Billboard Top 200 in 1999.

"I wanted this album to have a lot of different directions on it, I did not want it to be any one baby," says Summer. "I just wanted it to be a sampler of flavors and influences from all over the world. There's a touch of this, a little smidgeon of that, a dash of something else like when you're cooking."

Five-time Grammy winner, Donna Summer maintains an unbroken string of hits throughout the '70s and '80s, most of which she wrote. Summer holds the record for most consecutive double albums to hit #1 on the Billboard charts (3) and first female to have four #1 singles in a 12 month period; 3 as a solo artist and one as a duo with Barbara Streisand.

Songs on Crayons run the musical gamut from "a really real pop pop song" like "The Science of Love," to retro-modern dance tracks like "I'm A Fire" to the socially conscious "Bring Down The Reign," the world-music-flavored "Driving Down Brazil" and the title track which features Ziggy Marley. With the album's centerpiece ballad, "Be Myself Again," Summer creates an intimate, revelatory musical meditation. "What I wanted to do," she says, "is strip down a song. I wanted it to be a cappella. There's always so much hoopla around the voice, I wanted to do a song where there's no hoopla. There's just you and the audience listening to somebody who's just singing to themselves, singing about the intimate parts of what it has taken to do what they do. The thing to do is stay connected to the true self and that's really difficult in show business. That's what the song is about."

Ya know ....

No one supports covering all genres of music more than myself ....

I subscribe to WORLD RHYTHM, RELIX, NME and the list goes on ....

And even I looked twice when I saw The Beastie Boys on the cover of RELIX last year .....

.... But Donna Summer's new album and tour covered on JAMBASE?

.... You know how I know you are gay?

But no love for the new kids on the block, where is the coverage of all genres, what about Engleburt Humperdink coverage? Jambase, where is the love?

Neil Diamond and Tom Jones are touring.

They report on freakin' JayZ. Are y'all really THAT surprised Donna Summers is mentioned? "I Feel Love" is a great song, especially the New Deal cover of it.

i think that it is cool that jambase is reporting donna summer...i am not a fan of her music, but i think that she has made a name for herself and that her music is important to many people...if jambase can post justin timberlake shows (which it does), then donna summer can be mentioned as well...i believe any music can be mentioned on this site...those of you who find this silly, open your minds to the fact that music is merely aesthetic and that jam bands are not the only musicians with talent or even liked by people who also like jam bands...any type of music can be enjoyed by anyone...good for you donna

Here's the deal. 80% of the people who comment on stories are extremely close-minded and negatively involved in the world of music. Not only that, but if you are going to sit there and bash a disco update, you sure as hell better not claim to be a fan of !!!, New Young Pony Club, M83, MGMT, Feist, or a thousand other performers. Rilo Kiley's new cd = disco. Now go call them sellouts, but those are the facts. Grow up and shut up. If you don't like story, keep it to yourself unless it's personally offensive and if you're going to claim this is personally offensive, than you're just immature.

yeah the jam genre is supposed to be a culmination of all musics of the world... so if one of the top songwriting pioneers of one genre does something interesting, why not report on it... if willie nelson put out a new album and tour, would you people bitch if jambase covered it? i bet if elvis came back from the dead and jambase had an article you would all bitch about that, too! they're already covering all the important jam stories anyway, so why not throw on some amusing stuff on top... what else are they gonna do, report what kind of sanwich trey anastasio had for lunch? or maybe whether umphrey's mcgee wears boxers or briefs?

get over yurselves.

FreshFlavor, you mention Donna The Buffalo and say, "She sux..." Well, if you do not even know that DTB is a BAND, not a person, and that they do not even have a band member named Donna, I simply cannot imagine that you know their music enough to tell us that "She sux," other than simply exercising your first ammendement right to make an ass out of yourself. For those of you a little more astute listeners, Donna The Buffalo is a tremendously talented group of songwriters and musicians- not exactly jammy, but very high quality. I clicked this link hpoing it was DTB, but actually fearing it might be Donna Summer.
