"The Brakes remind us of how good pop music can be."

"Ladies and gentleman, welcome to this year's first summer cookout record." -Philadelphia Weekly

The Brakes
Philadelphia's The Brakes are gearing up for U.S. tour dates in May to support the release of their debut full-length album, Tale Of Two Cities, due May 6 on HYENA Records. The 18-date trek is part of a co-bill, which also features Los Angeles rock band, Carney.

The Brakes, all of whose members are in their early twenties, are captured at an idyllic time on Tale Of Two Cities. The collection was recorded during a month-long, dual-city residency at The Knitting Factory in New York City and Milkboy in Philadelphia. Each of the shows were tracked and the best performances from both cities were selected for the album. As The Brakes transition between an intimate neighborhood listening room and a renowned big city rock club, they seamlessly intertwine infectious indie-pop, crunchy California guitar rock and starry-eyed British psychedelia. On standout versions of songs like "Big Money," "Supermarket," and "Cigarette In The Rain," the band distinguishes themselves with equal parts of razor sharp songwriting and searing musicianship. The album's lead track, "Into The Ground," which is being offered as a free mp3, has already been downloaded over 8,000 times in the first few weeks of release.
